Hi Guy's
Has anybody used the Wilwood disc brake conversion kit (P.N. 140-2723-B ) to convert to BBP? Here's my problem. My car was originally equipped with the 4 piston Kelsey Hayes brakes. The system worked okay but because of the need to convert to BBP and the desire to have improved braking the decision was made to go with the Wilwood's. After installation I have found that the brakes will not even hold the car in place against the engines torque when holding the gas and brake together.
I have talked to a few people and read a few Mopar magazines and a lot of them are suggesting a new master cylinder with a 7/8 piston size. I have measured the piston in my current master cylinder and it measures about 1 1/32 of an inch. The story I get is that the smaller piston size will increase the pressure to the brakes but will also give the petal a little more travel when trying to stop.
I've checked with Wilwood and their 7/8 master cylinder is $250.00 (plus you have to buy the 4 bolt to 2 blot adapter plate). Does anyone know of a factory master cylinder with 7/8 piston size or have you used something that worked well for you? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!!
