I see a post from a member with problems with a w/s gasket. I will need front and back gaskets for my 71 dart. Is DMT gaskets really a concern? If so, who is the best? So far, everything I have bought from DMT has been great. Real world experiences?

I've used Precision gaskets a few times with good success.
But honestly I've seen more issues stemming from cheap offshore reproduction glass (too thin) than with the gaskets themselves.
Another thing to be aware of (and I don't have an answer for) is the new lockstrips, although they function perfectly well, don't have the same profile that the factory ones did. And the mylar "chrome" finish starts to degrade after a couple seasons out in the elements...

Thanks Professor Fate. I just looked at DMT web site again, and he states that NO LOCK strip is required for his gaskets for the 71 dart. I have bought from him on several
occasions and talked to him at ICH swap meet. He brings my stuff to Indy after I prepay, so I don't have to pay shipping and usually get a show discount.

I've used cheapASS imported gaskets several times and they always fit and seal good. Am I lucky? Maybe. I do have a Steel Rubber gasket in Vixen now and I cannot tell the difference. I don't have experience with DTM.

I spoke to the DMT guy, I forget his name, the Precision cost more so I asked if it was worth it.

He said all the windshield gaskets are made by the same company, then packaged differently.

Same ol' same ol'

The DMT guy is JIM. I have spoke with him several times and have been to his shop. He actually loves what he does and cares about the people who buy from him. If there is ever an issue he is most eager to help sort it out. There are still good folk out there.

My experience seems to back that up.

My gasket leaks like a MF'er. I used sealer only to glue the gasket to the pinch weld. I posted pics of the gaps at the lower corners. I was emailing back and forth with Jim from DMT the other day, and he said the gaskets he sells are from Precision. You may want to take a look at TylerW's post from May 23, 2023. Honestly, we shouldn't have to pile in butyl caulk and tape to keep these things from leaking. I am going to take a look at the Steele product.

That sucks! Factory or aftermarket glass?

It seems like there are less issues with the seals and more to do with the reproduction windshields. Has anyone used a new gasket with the original windshield? That was my plan for my car, but I'm naive to this area of restoration.

Unfortunately, this is incorrect. The ones I have had success with get butyl around the pinch weld to take up the gaps and fast urethane caulk in the glass channel after it is all in but before the lock strip gets closed. Cleanup is the worst part but it doesn't leak.
