I am experiencing a bit of confusion here. I am trying to install a Ron Francis headlight switch (HL-07 if that helps). The problem I am having is this...when I turn the parking lights on I get front and rear parking lights and dash lights. The first part of the problem is that the tail lights dim with the dash lights. The second part is when I pull the knob out all the way for headlights, the headlights come on and all the rest of the light shut off. As far as I can tell all the wires are connected to the correct terminals. When I direct power each wire, the correct lights come on.

What are you putting this in, and why didn't you just use a stock Mopar switch? (custom dash????)

So, what is the year/ make model of your car?

You have a factory service manual?

original wiring diagrams?

If you folllowed the destructions, they are pretty clear

I don't have any idea what all you are rewiring, what you are using for a harness, or the wire codes, but

FIRST thing I'd consider is using headlight relays out in the engine bay which relieves strain on the light switch, the dimmer switch, and the bulkhead connector

BATTERY FEED NO2 is power coming TO the switch from the tail fuse, and supplies the tail, park, and dash dimmer circuit

PARKING LIGHT FEED goes out to the park lights, but if you want the park lights to stay on with headlights, hook this wire to the "TAIL LIGHT FEED."

HEADLIGHT FEED TO DIMMER SWITCH This is "headlights on" power going out to the dimmer switch where hi/ low is selected. If you install relays, use the hi/ lo feed wires going through the bulkhead to trigger a relay for hi, and another for lo

BATTERY FEED NO1 This is a large gauge power wire coming IN and powers ONLY the headlight part of the switch. It originally was fed UN fused power from the "in harness" factory splice from the ammeter circuit. It is protected by a breaker in/ on the light switch

TAIL LIGHT FEED is power OUT to tail lights, and park lights if you want them to be on with headlights

TO DOME LIGHTS (ground) This hooks in with the door switches, originally YELLOW in your car, and turns on the dome lights when the knob is twisted hard left

DASH LIGHTS Originally, in Mopar, this dimmer was powered internally by the switch from the TAIL fuse. This wire was originally TAN and goes to a small INSTRUMENT fuse in the panel, changes to ORANGE, and feeds all dimmed lamps, like the cluster, radio, heater, shift quadrant, etc.

yup, used that exact instruction diagram. I figured out the problem...or should I say problems today. It was a confusing combination of
the original switch having the front and rear parking lights on the same circuit (which I had kinda figured out already)
the brake pedal not hitting the brake light switch and thus the brake lights being on all the time
a previous owner having the car wired (poorly) for a trailer
and a short in the fuse block that had me really confused by making each try give me completely different sets of problems.

All is better now and the new switch works like a champ!
