Yesterday I went with a friend to look at a 64 Dart GT convertible that the owner is looking to sell. I have never bought into a pre 67 A body and need some help here. I did not take my camera to get photos and I would wait to list this until I have some but the owner said he would like to sell by the end of the weekend so time is short. He is firm on his price and I want to see if you guys and gals think its in line.
As for the car, BODY.... its has a turquoise paint job that is decent as a driver but will need stripped and redone before long, trunk lid is from a different car and will need replaced too. Trunk floor and floorpans are in great shape. No rust anywhere. passenger 1/4 looks to have a slight wave to it behind the rear tire so it will need pushed out and smoothed, this looks like the only body work that it will need.
TRIM....needs headlight rings, taillights, trunk lid trim, and lower front valance trim replaced. side trim and aALL convertible only trim is very nice.
DRIVETRAIN.... 273 runs, could use a tuneup but doesn"t smoke or knock. Auto trans unknown condition, same with the brakes. has power steering.
INTERIOR.... all original black bucket seats. seats are in great shape, carpet real bad, door and side panels are fine but door panl are not original so will need replaced. all rear panels that are convert only are real nice and uncut. Needs a top well boot and the rear rear window replaced but the white top canvas itself is in nice condition.
Looking it over, the main things it needs are...windshield is cracked, carpet, some trim, door panels, trunk lid, and a rear bumper.
Overall it is a unmolested original car that was last plated in 1989. The owner wants $4000 for it. My problem is that I already have a 65 Chrysler convertible and the Dart is just too small for my family of 5 to enjoy as a weekend driver. But, if this is a real decent price, I wouldn't mind bringing it home, getting the small things straightened out and maybe selling it or trading it off in a few years. So, what do you think, is it valued high, low, or right on target for something like this?
