So you haven't btdt as you claimed.... got it.Couldn't tell you. I fell asleep before it crossed the finish line.

Pick any cam you want, would it run with 240@50 duration or does 210@50 that much better or worse.you mean change the cam with other years of 318 production cams? Like, try a '68 cam then try a '90 roller cam?
yeah, that would get time and cost consuming. I think this would be a one and done experiment and then the engine wouldn't be in the Duster anymore.Pick any cam you want, would it run with 240@50 duration or does 210@50 that much better or worse.
The 318 "passenger car" cams to me really only come in 2 choices... flat tappet and roller. There really aren't special years that have "hotter cams". There should have been... Seems they did more for the marine world than the street world.Think once you figure your gears
Tire size
Then find a cam that fits
How many choices do you have in stock
3.91s were available in 318 A-bodys at least in 1970.

The what was the 318-4bbl cam from the late '70s early '80s?The 318 "passenger car" cams to me really only come in 2 choices... flat tappet and roller. At least net numbers is comparable to each other unlike gross.
Exhaust and timing might be the differences between those numbers.
What about exhaust ?
Pretty sure 360 manifolds were on some later model 318's, guess you would have to run single, what would be the largest pipe size offered ?
Yeah, I'm doubting that bit of info. That may be the Mex-Spec, but not here in the USA.
They aren't anything really more than a 2bbl cam. I seen what George Jet posted, but I'm doubting that totally. That is basically a 340 cam, and no LA 318 came with that in cars in the USA that I've ever found or researched. The what was the 318-4bbl cam from the late '70s early '80s?
My goal would be not to modify any components. However, if my TQ is missing the choke, I'm not paying money to find one with a choke and install it. BUT, again... my goal would be NOT to try and find ways to "alter" any part to make more performance, but ONLY use factory parts that may perform the best. *Exception is the exhaust. I'm not paying hundreds for one simple test and then be done with that component forever.. lolHere is a question?
Can you remove stock components in stock parts, like removing the heat riser flap in the passenger exhaust manifold?

I would imagine the police 318-4bbl (E48?) that got the 360 topend along with the windage tray & double roller timing chain probably also got the E58 cam shaft? They aren't anything really more than a 2bbl cam. No, not to my knowledge. Not even the E48 Police trooper pooper dooper car. LOL There has never been one ounce of evidence of this. At least proven to me.I would imagine the police 318-4bbl (E48?) that got the 360 topend along with the windage tray & double roller timing chain probably also got the E58 cam shaft?
If not, the Mexican Super Bees definitely did.
I've driven several 318's, from factory four barrel cars to 2-bbl dump trucks. Stock to modified, cams, converters, and carbs, aluminum heads, juice, etc. Some ran great, really truly great. So you haven't btdt as you claimed.... got it.![]()
As you said, Magnums are not in the discussion. Slow? Yes, I made that point someplace in this thread...LOL. But that doesn't matter, at least to me. I know of nobody that's performed the test I described. I am interested in the results. IF I do this, I was basically asking if any others had interest, if so, I'd share.I've driven several 318's, from factory four barrel cars to 2-bbl dump trucks. Stock, though, none held a candle to my '93 5.2 Dakota Sport and that truck has never failed to impress anyone that rides in it during a full throttle downshift. It IS a 318.
But that's a Magnum... So it's outside the scope of this.
And it's my opinion that no combo of factory parts from LA world is going match what they did with the Magnum Magic. Maybe I miss the point?
So to me, it would be more interesting to find which combination of interior options gives you the best performance.
Like I said, maybe I'm missing the point.
yep!Did any 318 come with an exhaust manifold without the steering column squish?
I do find the premise interesting, especially if you have a pile of parts laying around. I have always wanted to see what a set of 308 heads could do.As you said, Magnums are not in the discussion. That's fine folks not being interested. Totally understand. I would be able to adjust timing, and idle mixture, metering rods, the stuff that the factory provided for customers to adjust. I wouldn't put a FBO plate in it. Once you curve the distributor, then you install bigger valves, and a bigger cam.. you got just another run of the mill mildly built 318 (which I've done too many times). What I haven't done, is gather what I'd think to be the best factory pieces and put them together and see what it would run.I do find the premise interesting, especially if you have a pile of parts laying around. But no distributor adjusting?
Like, are you where you can run it at sea level? Because I think that's the base for how factory cars are set up?
14.9? Off the show room floor? That's faster than a '73 340 Duster went off the show room floor!i can tell you my stock 318 in 72 ran 14.9 of fthe fatory floor with 5000 miles on it
