This is almost a sin. To anyone who appreciates WWII aircraft, it's heart breaking... Thank goodness there were no injuries.
My son was fortunate to get a ride on this very plane a few years ago during a show in Jacksonville, Fl. He emailed me the link. Just too bad.

Damn. That's awful....but you know, airplane folks are kinda like us. If that bird can ever fly again, it WILL.

I've had a love affair with those old war birds for years. This is a major loss. I'm just glad that no one was hurt (or worse)
fixnfab

Thought that looked familiar. It happened June of last year in Il. Aircraft is a total loss. A big pile of molten aluminum. Some parts might be salvageable.

Very, very sad. There aren't all that many left in any condition, and you don't just go out and order parts from somewhere, nor do you find people who have knowledge of the mechanics of these birds on any street corner.

WOW what a shame. If it can be rebuilt I am sure it will be. Look at the crew that rebuilt the Memphis Belle

Sucks when that happens. On one hand you would like them to be around for other generations to see, if only on the ground. On the other there is nothing like having an old war bird fly over head. They were built to fly after all.

I agree. They were built to fly. The B-17 was one of the most durable air craft of the war. Many safely brought their crews home in spite of damages that were incredible.
Even in this crash, the crew made it out unharmed with thanks to a good pilot and a good plane.

the narrator says..."seems like a total loss".. no **** buddy!

to save that plane, it would have to be a re-body!
it is a shame

Wow, since I was 6 years old I have had a strong liking of the b-17 and b-29. Awesome machines.
Really too bad to have such an intact functioning part of the history of our freedom and air superiority destroyed.

At least the pilots got to experience both the joy of flying it and the experience of crashing it, and walking away.
Pretty much the whole nine yards, minus the bombing runs and getting shot at, I suppose, not that I know much about any of it.

Thanks for sharing..

that was one of the bombers that flew over my house when i lived in fort meyers fl they held a air show every yr at there air port. RIP liberty belle
