    What Year Valve Cover?

You are correct about the casting. I am painting mine to match the engine. It will look just fine painted red and it will better hide the alterations needed for adding PCV.

    What Year Valve Cover?

If you can suck air through it from the hose side and not easily blow air into the hose side then it is still good. Personally I am going with an offenhauser aluminum valve cover when mine goes back together. Adding baffles for PCV and a small threaded port that will allow me to use a PCV...

    Caster Angle on Manual Steering

I have rielly motorsports uca's on mine and 5 degrees of caster never really bothered me much with manual steering. Run the most caster you can get with the proper amount of camber.

Why you should buy quality electrical parts

A coworker sent me these links. They are tests on a certain off brand fuse. Keep this in mind anytime you are thinking of buying something electrical that is on ebay or looks good in a catalog. If you don't see the problem in the 2 videos then you should learn some basic electrical before you...

    Highway RPMS ?

The standard equipment rear axle ratio on a 65 valiant with 225 and auto is 2.93. That info is straight out of the service manual and my 65 matches the info. Of course in the last 50 years the axle could have been changed. If you haven't ever changed your rear diff fluid you should do so and...

    slant 6 oil pressure

Just putting it out there. In recent years GM has had many issues with their V8 engines. Problems like excessive oil consumption and premature engine failure. I have talked to owners that went through 3 engines in 60K miles. 1 guy noticed his engine burning oil and Gm wouldn't do anything...

    Driveshaft 65 question!

Does your mercedes have an independent rear suspension? I have never seen the rubber flex coupler attached to a rear axle that moved with the suspension. I know that if you do a hard reverse launch those couplers go boom and come apart.

Ultimate daily-driver Gen II A Body to build

If you have 30K to spend I think I would look at swapping in a 3rd hemi with 6 speed trans. It will give you plenty of power and reliability. I would never swap my slant for a small block but I might for a 3rd gen. With the 6 speed you could have steeep rear gears and still cruise at a...

    1965 Valiant

Yes, I recall that post as well. I recall that when told that they didn't have any on hand the poster threatened the company with complaints and a negative review and then they sent him a crappy set in a timely fashion. I have also read that for a "driver" quality car they are perfectly fine...

    1965 Valiant

There is a company out of mexico that sells 64-65 barracuda tail lamp lenses on ebay. I have heard the quality is quite good and the price is reasonable. A new lens won't have the fading or cloudiness common to old lenses...

    Fuel Economy..?

Realistically you are looking at 20 mpg in town with a very good state of tune. There are factors that would improve upon this such as overdrive manual trans or a lockup auto trans. Using a dollar figure as a comparison in fuel ecomony just plain doesn't work, unless you always buy fuel for...

    5 spd trans

There are no factory 5 speed bells. But some of the stranger slant lovers (like me) do have bellhousings with T5 adaptor plates attached to them sitting on shelves. Maybe someone (not me) would part with one if you posted a wanted ad. Mine cost about $250 to have the adaptor and pilot bearing...

This is not a good question for fabo. Post this question or better yet use the search feature at www.slantsix.org and you will have enough info to read for days. piston identification on 273

Generally if a part has a number like 010, 020, 030, 040 this is the oversize label. I would bet that your engine has already been bored out .040 over factory bore. I don't recall how much oversize a 273 can take but I think that is around the max.

    Torsion bar removal

Nothing to be afraid of as long as the arm has a floor jack supporting it. When you lower the jack the arm will swing down through its travel. This is nowhere near as dangerous as the same job on a coil front spring car(GM) where the only thing holding the spring in place is the arms and the...

    65 cuda slant six timing

Something I would be concerned with on a 65 with a later model engine is the crankshaft to torque convertor fitment. Later crankshaft had a larger diameter hole which allow the 65 torque convertor to float instead being centered. The way to check is to pull the inspection cover and start the...

    Torsion bar removal

And where in this fine world do you live? Here in the rustbelt bolts freeze, seize, and weld themselves together. The t-bar adjuster bolts are large fine thread bolts which means a very large amount of contact surface for corrosion. Those strange people that don't get to experience real rust...

    Torsion bar removal

You could just skip the step with the adjuster. Unbolt the shock, have a floor jack under the LCA and pop a ball joint loose it will allow the suspension to drop much farther releasing tension from the torsion bar. Once it is unloaded you should be able to pry the adjuster bolt/block out of...

66 Cuda Hood Latch / 4 Speed Hump

If it is on the radiator support you should be able to take one from just about any car through the present. It is a very basic system and should be easily adapted.

65 /6 dart- rod vs cable throttle?

I could be mistaken but I remember the rod linkage rotation being opposite of engine rotation on early A slants. Meaning when they torque up on a bad mount it closes throttle instead of opening. Unless you are changing to a supersix setup why change what works properly. Even if you are...

66 Cuda Hood Latch / 4 Speed Hump

I don't see any reason you can't install a 4 speed hump, just put some kind of console on it and no one will ever know. Is the hood latch on the hood or the radiator support on a 1966? I know on my '65 it is on the hood and looks to be a PITA to change to a remote style release.

Why Does This S**T Happen To ME!!!!!

Since the hood is already trashed it would be a good canidate for a cowl induction style scoop. Should cover the damaged section nicely. So if anyone is thinking of doing such a thing contact the OP he might sell/give you a hood. :)

Why Does This S**T Happen To ME!!!!!

Hoods are easier to find than good front fenders. At least they don't rot away the way fenders do. I once saw a 70 chrysler 300 burn up at a traffic light, after that I always carry a fire extinguisher in my old cars. Sounds like you got lucky. If your under hood clearance is that low have...

    /6 198 rods needed badly

I thought one of the big advantages of the 198 rods was that it allowed a much shorter/lighter piston? That might not add power, but it should bring up the revs faster which is good for a turbo motor.
