Well normally I stay out of other people's business.

I have a neighbor that lives 3 houses down the street. He is in construction and drives a newer Ford F350 Power Stroke for his business. We have talked on a few occasions, but are not what I could call friends. Anyway I see a big lifted black Cummins Dodge parked in front of his house for a while, then all of the sudden I see him pull in my driveway. He gets out and says "Nice Mopars you have over here" He looks at the dart, barracudas and Dart Sport for a while and we shoot the breeze. He then asks me how much I know about my neighbor that drives the white ford and when was the last time that I saw the truck? At this point I figured out he was a repo man. I told him that I haven't seen the truck in a few days, but was familiar with it. He gave me a card and said that there is a $500 finders fee out on the truck and call him if I saw it. I thought yeah, whatever.

Well 10 minutes after he left my neighbor pulls in his driveway in the truck. I had a moral dilemma. So I called the repo man and told him. He said that he would be back in a few minutes. In the mean time my neighbors friend hops in the truck and takes off. I call the repo man and tell him what direction that he is going. He says that he is sitting around the corner waiting.

Anyway about an hour later he calls and said that he got the ford. He followed the guy to his house and the driver actually left the keys in the ignition. He said it was too easy. He backs up and hooks up to it with a lift on the back of his dodge and knocks on the door and tells the guy to come get his stuff out of it.

He gets my info for the reward and the company will be cutting me a check this week. He also thanked me a few times, because sometimes these repos can drag out for weeks when the person is hiding a vehicle like my neighbor was doing.

I told my wife to use the money for new shoes for her and all of our kids and work boots for me. What do you think???????

I am glad you are not my neighbor..LOL I guess he should of made his payments.Good luck on getting that check. Jim

Tough call !!But I used to help a buddy of mine Repo cars back in St Pete !!!Got to do what you got to do !!!All decisions aren't always popular!!!

The way that I see it is that if he paid his bills then he wouldn't be in this situation. The guy has a new KTM dirt bike that he just brought home a couple of months ago. I don't feel that sorry for him. They would have repo'd it without my help eventually. Feeling bad for him is what is wrong with this world today. My .02 cents.

I think you did the right thing. I see it this way, if the neighbor isn't able to make his payments, he has obviously missed more than a couple, more than likely he hasn't paid his insurance on the truck either. The more uninsured vehicles that are off the road the better off everybody else is. Now, getting paid for turning him in! Even better. Now I do kinda feel bad for the guy, kinda. But we don't know his situation.

well, you asked for others thoughts. here is mine......................
you wrote "if he paid his bills, then he would not be in this position", who the f*** are you to judge him?
do not turn around and say " oh, if i did not help them get it now, they would of gotten it later". you are right. but again.... who the f*** are you to make that desision
then you state "he bought a ktm a few months ago" , we all know within a hour, a families finacial situation can change.

how do you not know that he is struggling on the verge of a complete mental breakdown, cause now without the truck, he will not be able to feed his family tommorow night due to no truck for work.
then the following day, you read it in the paper that he commited suiside, cause someone snitch him out of where the truck is.?

now, none of this directed at you on a personal level, as i do not know you, but stating how it made me feel to read this, and i think what you did was low, decietful, slimey, and just not neiborly!.

MAYBE ONCE YOU CASH THAT CHECK, WALK IT OVER THERE AND HAND IT TO HIM, AND TELL HIM THAT YOU LED THE REPO MAN THERE, AND GIVE HIM THE "SNITCH MONEY" TO HELP OUT HIS FAMILY. THIS WAY, YOU WILL FELL BETTER ABOUT YOURSELF.

i as a man, see guys on here steruggling once in a while. and i try to help them out. all the while knowing they got a nice mopar that they are still working on!. that does not make a difference. times are tough, and when it is time like this, i would hate to give up my last "manly toy" unless there is no other choice. so i help out when i can, cause i have been broke plenty of times, and right now is one of those times.lol

oh, and by the way............... i hope they never send the check!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!lmao

I see nothing wrong with what you did. The repo man was already persuing him. You were minding your own business when he approached you. Everyone knows if you don't pay for things you don't get to keep them.

I guess if you wanna appear to be the "BIG SHOW" better be prepared to pay the big dough. Just another hollywood builder I would'nt lose any sleep over it. I've been a builder for 20 years and I see alot of these guys with their huge trucks playing the part, but still haven't learned what longevity takes in this business. Sorry bit of a rant there.:director:

I don't imagine you made friends with that neighbor... Hopefully he doesn't hold bad grudges otherwise the $500 may not have been worth it.

Just kiddin man.
All the things you can think of to justify what happened and how you were involved does not make any difference in this specific situation.
Really, he was going to lose the truck anyway, and you might have made some money because of the eventuality.
Good for you.
It's not like you stoled it and sold it or anything.

The bank or loan company is entitled to get the collateral back if the loan is not being paid.

In my opinion, you did nothing wrong. Should your neighbor be entitled to a "free" truck? After all, that's what he is getting if he's not making the payments. In the end, EVERYONE ELSE gets to make up the difference for the losses incurred from bad debts. Sometimes, it's "just one of those things", but if he can afford a new motorcycle, he can afford to make his car payments.

Just a "newbie's" opinion... :newb:

Calm down. I make it a point to pay my bills on time. Sometimes I have had to work 3 jobs if that is what it takes. Maybe more people should do the same. Or maybe the finance company should have cut him a little slack or just forgotten the whole thing? Oh wait they have bills to pay too. Whatever dude.

If he wanted to keep his truck he should have paid for it. That's how $hit works. He was obviously way behind on his payments and he knew it. He can ride his dirt bike to work. Cry me a river.

Don't listen to that "Snitch Money" bulls**t.
Obviously this guy is one of the people that would do the same thing, and ask you to be involved in hiding his truck from them.
Screwwwww That.
You have a moral responsibility to your community and family that comes before this truck that going to get repossesed anyway.

I used to do repo's back when I was younger, I worked for a towing company that was on a shoestring buget and they took whatever work was available......when I opened my towing company I had already decided that I would not be in the repo business, the repo guy is doin his job,the company that sent him is just doin business.....I hated bein the guy on duty the night or day's repo work was there

If it would make you feel better, when (if) ya get the check, cash it. Give half to your wife, put half in a blank white envelope and leave it in his mailbox.
It wont fix anything, but maybe it would perk up his day...
