Tubbing the Valiant

-
nice build...
Noticed you went from the AM parallel 4-bar/panard bar to the adjustable 4-link/diagonal link.
What length bar/instant center are you shootin for... now that it's a 4-link?

just wonderin'
Denny

PS...whats the deal with the different angles on the rear shocks???...what did I miss? is it you hadn't yet centered the rear with the diagonal ?

Gidday Denny, it's not set up yet. I'm shooting to locate the rear axel higth and weel base in the stock location. I found a bug in the AM set up affecting "roll". The AM would of required a anti-sway set up this one does not....I hope..lol. Having a time out to work on the brakes and exhaust. Happy 2012 all, Brad

Just mocking up the exhaust while the car is give'n her 90. The Spintech looks very well built. Ron there is going to extend the outlet so that I can attach the SS exhaust tip direct to the outlet. The TTI's seem to be ok so far. It looks real tight arount the torsion bars. I hope the power steering gear box goes in as the directions said. I followed the TTI directions to the letter and even gained and extra 1/8" higth from the top of the K member to the crankshat cemtre line. I hope it helps.

I had another productive weekend. I sure like Lokar products. The parking brake system was a delight to install with the FORD Explosion set up. The orange gobbs on the brake lines is a witness marker called Torque Seal. We use it on aircraft lines to show what was torqued or if someome messed with it. We have our own colors to say "who" some joints will have two colors to show duel inspection. If something moves it cracks. IT IS NOT A THREAD SEALER. Neet stuff. I started mocking up the rad & supercharger....had to cut for clearance but, that's life....:-s.

Was looking into the same type of mufflers you are using, Did you purchase them directly from the manufacturer? The car is looking great! Love those fatties

Are you talking these fatties or the tires....LOL. The red Dart is my roll model, nice car. I spoke with Ron direct at Spin Tech. Nice fellow and easy to get along with. He sent me a sample muffler so I could size things up and come up with a drawing. Can't wait to get the finished pair back.....3" all the way! Cheers.
P.S. Keep you snow in Ontario....:glasses7:

I've had a design set back and could use your advice.

I need to cut some of the transmission hump out to get the clearance and better align the drive shaft. With out cutting the hump and having 0.250" clearance I had a drive shaft angle of 10 degree. I understand it should be 5 degree max or less. As you see it in the picture I'm down to about 3 degree and still need some hump to transmission clearance. I figure if I have to cut out any hump material I might as well try for the best drive shaft alignment I can (0.050 or 1.000 degree). I may have to cut more towards the rear of the car as well. Is there a company that can supply replacement drive shaft hump sheet metal to make "capping" it off easier? Or I'm I looking at more custom work?

I hate to see you cutting into your finished product. Was some of this an after thought?
The Trans Tunnel and the Supercharger were not mocked up before it went to paint?

Those Orange Wheels are for mock up? I'm confused.

I did not like cutting either but, when you change or adjust one thing it affects 10 more down stream. The Supercharger was close before but, I had to get the engine over more for the TTi's and that changed several things. Good thing I used rattle can FJ6 paint so touching up is no big deal. My long term plan is to rattle can for this year and run the car to get the bugs out then strip it and send it to a pro-paint shop for a nice job.

The orange mags are keepers. I had them powder coated florecent orange to go on a white A-100 440. I sold the A-100 but, kept the mags for a future project. It's funny in a way. The construction company my wife works for has orange, green and black as company colors. I guess it will be easy to discribe the car to the cops if it gets hoisted....lol. My helmet is flo orange too.

I may re-do the rims in the future to black or silver

Thanks, I was just wondering if you went tru a supplier or direct. I think I'll go with the same mufflers, I like that they are flat and the option of the side exit seems the way to go for me in my build. Your build is coming along well. Those fatties my friend I LIKE alot!

i have the same spintechs on my valiant, althougth they're not side exit like yours, I love they way they sound and are differenty than any other muffler. Also a family owned business. Ron is an awsome fella to deal with

I don't believe you want the driveshaft aligned to less than 1 degree. The idea is to run both joints at an angle but 'in phase'. Normally the pinion is set up around 2 degrees down from the prop yoke to allow for suspension movement. The angled joints give better u/j longevity.

Very cool build Brad! I'd like to stop by sometime when I'm on the mainland and take a look at the Valiant. I'm over on Vancouver Island.

Nice 69, where can I see more pictures?

Fixed the supercharger clearance issue.....I hope.

could you send me or post a pic of how you connected the wheel tubs to the quarters. im worried that the bottom of the quarters will flop around , not being attached

Here ya go I just got around to this over the past couple of days. Basicaly I glued the tubs to the inside of the rear quarters. If I was painting the car I would of welded. I used urathane body seam sealer and it sticks like heck. Then I sealed it up with regular body seam sealer. The rivets were used to keep things in place while the urathane dries. I think I'll be picking that stuff off my hands for weeks :-?.

I started taking the heater box apart today and getting the inside of the fire wall insolated. I had some Dynamat left over from the Newport. Decided to use it up.

I had to route part of my fuel lines through the flight deck because I did not want anything below the frame if at all possible, except the exhaust. So I welded up a little box to prodect the lines and seal the fuel lines to the outside.

:coffee2:
