Yup, that's it. And to add to the confusion, they made two different backup lenses. One with lines and the other with circles.

Well i knew that 64 was a one year tail light ... but i didnt know that . thanks i now know some thing i didnt b4 i opened this thread

Whats wrong with those ones? they look pretty nice!

I think he means he wants 64-65 cuda / 65 valiant tails in its place.

If so, I did this to mine. Just need to lay the bezel to body gasket on the body as a template, draw the big hole with a sharpie and go to it with a grinder. The rear trim panel will also need a little shave to get the curve into it.

Looking close you can see stress cracks. I was looking at the reverse lenses and there are two different types on there. :violent1:

Laysons makes a quality repop. THey did come with lines and with circles... its inexplicable.

Oh man, I haven't ordered anything from layson's in a long time. They never have it in stock and they take your money and leave you hanging. :sign10:
Have they changed? :glasses7:

Oh Layson's will send them, for a price... 'hope you're sitting down at the computer when you look them up.
Sadly, the brake light lenses on the 64's tend to heat warp- and to make matters worse, the 1964 Barracuda sports the '65 Valiant and Cuda lenses, not these. If you do buy repros, at least you can recoup some of that money by selling the old ones.

wait till carlisle or another show that laysons are at to buy. you know better then to give them any money without the part in your hand..

The Mexican repro lenses are a mixed bag. The '64 and '65 taillight lenses are pretty good. The '71-'73 Dart ones are junk to the point of being unsafe.

ok without a long lecture and 12 links to other threads, what makes you say that the 71-71 dart lens is borderline unsafe? is the lens not clear enough for the bulb to light or something?

i figured a simple explanation would be helpful. but i guess that is beneath ya.

i mean seriously throwing out "The '71-'73 Dart ones are junk to the point of being unsafe." with out a simple reason why is kinda lame don't ya think?

Not at all. Take a look at my posting history and you'll see it consists mostly of helping people and answering questions. It's more that you came across as scoldy and snotty in how you asked the question, and I don't react well to that. I'm sure you can understand that, right?

nothing snooty about it. i posted it having a little fun with ya.. but obviously you have no sense of humor.

even still just to post that they are border line dangerous isn't putting any helpful information out there.. if your going to post and say something is junk , atleast include a brief explanation of your opinion. just throwing that they are junk or borderline dangerous out there really doesn't help anyone..

Well, I'm glad you had fun. It's entirely possible I misread your intent, there being no tone of voice in words on a screen. That's why God invented smileys.

The lenses are unsafe because they took a cast of the inboard (backup/reflector) lens and used it for the outboard (stop/tail/turn) lens as well, just in all red, which means random/improper distribution of light for the stop/tail/turn functions. The '71-'73 Dart stop/tail/turn lights are small and dim even in perfect original condition; putting these lenses on makes them effectively smaller and dimmer still.

Im on those "Hecho en Mexico" 65 tail lights! Those look as good as my proposed casting from an NOS pair, and cheaper than the resin!
