I am just wondering what I should expect from a 4k paint job. I have talked with the shop and they say that they will remove fenders, doors trunk and hood. Repair minor rust damage to lower side panels in front of rear tires, (new metal), repair trunk and install missing trim to trunk, (I have the trim), and paint the same color for 4k. I have seen this shops work and am duly impressed. A few of my friends are also happy with their work. I think it is a good deal. Opinions????

Probably about as good as a factory paint job. Nuthin wrong with all that at all.

..you really should look at some of his clients cars
..having said that my paint cost about the same and as already stated is similar to factory with fine orange peel..and i am happy

For what its worth, I did this car for $2500.Thats was a deal because it was a member here. Blocked it twice, base/clear that the customer supplied, cut and buff. All the jams were done when it came to the shop and the car already had a coat of primer on it. No rust repair needed.

When I got this car it was in sealer and already had the metal work done to it, but I had to go back and repair a few places and block the car a couple of times. I charged him $1600, but he bought the paint supplies and it was a friend deal. I did poly spray on filler, sealer, base, clear, cut and buffed. I also did the jams, engine bay and trunk. I should have charged him more. Turned out great.

I think your $4,000 is a decent deal if they do quality work.

I paid $4,000 just to have a few spots of rust repaired, stripped the trunk and exterior, and had the whole car sprayed put in primer (see avatar). I WISH I could have seen some paint for that price.

Sounds like a good deal, but check out some of his work.

Sounds like a good deal for "Driver" quality paint.

I did this Dart for $3K including materials. Not much body work. Included painting jambs, trunk, and engine compartment. Blocked it once before final prime. Driver quality (although owner thought it looked awesome).

Hello, Do you know if they are using a single stage or a base clear coat? I work at a automotive dealership with an autobody. I paid $2300 for the base/clearcoat and primer for two coats.(supplies only) This was for the complete car,Under panels, Rims and interior parts. Too say the least i was a little shocked as this was supposed to be an internal price.

I don't know about you but we are regulated to use the wonderful water based paints. I think we still use a solvent based clear.
It looks like i will have closer to $7000. in my paint and assembly with myself doing most of the grunt work. Nothing is inexpensive anymore. Jason

4k=driver
freinds are happy enough said if you like your buddies paint job go for it!!!!

Materials are expensive so $2500 in good brand name materials doesnt shock me. A gallon of paint can easily cost $600-$800, a gallon of clear is round $150 to $200 Theres half your bill with no primer and no labor.

All clears are solvent based other wise they would wash off in the rain LOL

My body man just got done replacing the quarters and fixing the trunk extensions and door post on my fish. I supplied all the metal including the door post assys I cut off my parts car. $800, in primer.

Gonna be an expensive fish when it gets done. Lots cheaper to buy a finished project in this economy.

After I screwed up trying to paint myself a friend painted for FREE but I'll be working it off the rest of my life

It is cheaper to buy done but then you usually dont know how well it was done.
$800 for that work was cheap.

I did mine for a few hundred bucks so to me 4k sounds like way too much.

what did you paint it with ? Rustoleum ? Even using cheap primer and paint you cant do it for a few hundred bucks.

Gallon of primer

I'm getting ready to do a car for a friend and I'm at $300 in just primer, tape, masking paper and sand paper,

Believe me $4000.00 is a screaming deal.
Have you priced paint and materials alone lately.
You're getting body work done too!

heck on the conservative side for quality materials is $1200-$1600 , if youve seen the work of the shop & are comfortable with using them , by the description you posted 4k is a good deal if they stay true to the agreed job . Its still a good idea to get it in writing though as memories fade over time . just like a crappy paint job:D

I think $4000 with rust repair, done at a shop, is low.

I'm getting ready to paint my friends Buick GN. I am not charging labor. Zero rust repair needed.

Materials and supplies alone are looking like $1500-$2000.

Find out what products are being used. A $4000 paint job that only looks good for a year or two isn't a very good deal.

I agree but be prepared for unknowns once the metal starts coming off.:banghead:
