Just getting ready to hook this system up, 72 440 duster with a ECU system.

#1- the thin red wire goes to the Ballast, I have the 4 pin set up. on one side there are two brown wires on the one spade and a blue on the other.

#2- on the other side of the Ballast there is a single brown on one spade then a jumper going to the other side, how do I hook it up here and what do I do with the remaining wires.

#3- the thin white wire goes to where the old UCU box pluged into before, does this wire get spliced into the black with yellow or white strip, eyes are bad not sure which colour the strip is.

#4- what do I do with the old ends that were hooked up to the old coil,

#5- I am also using there coil.

#6- I have wired it direct to the Battery, Red on Positive and Black on Negitive.

#7- I purchaced it used so no directions and the online ones do not tell which wires to use.

Thanks.

Hi John,I,m not familiar with this setup, but I,m sure you do not hook direct to battery(fry)I would get a test light and test your power to and from the ballist first(black/yellow and brown)with key on.I,m more familiar with MSD setup. There will be others that know more on these setups, just probably still sleeping LOL.Good luck.:D

Can you post a pic of the wires coming from the box?

Hi Scott, there web page says that the heavy red and black directly to the Battery, I need to know where the thin red and white wires go? MSD is the same, I looked there also. they do not tell me which wire is the trigger from the old ECU box. I'm assuming thats the black/ yellow strip wire?

i too need to know what happens to the ignition wire and the blue wire running from the voltage regulator once a crane cams hi-6 ignition is wired inn because i purchased one too, havent recieved it yet but i will soon.
I know on my ballast resistor one side goes to the positive side of the coil, then on the other side i have my ignition wire, the blue wire from my voltage regulator, and the ecu power wire. Where does the blue wire for the voltage regulator go once you take the ballast resistor out? Do you tie in the blue wire from the voltage regulator with the ignition wire and then tie that to the ignition wire on the crane cams ignition box?

ok so i just red that the ballast resistor does not have to be removed, and that the thin red wire from the crane box is hooked up to a switched 12v wire (normally the oe positive coil wire) it says, thats not the case on my set up. So how would i crearte a switched 12 volt wire? couldnt i just tie in the thin red wire from the crane box that they are calling there 12v ignition wire to the ign 1 side of my ballast resistor once i disconnect the ecu power wire from the ign1 side of the ballast? that way i could just keep my ballast resistor there and i wouldnt have to change the way my voltage regulator is wired up. and the crane box would be getting its power source straight from the battery and its ign source from ign1 of my ballast resistor? or could i just tie in the thin red wire from the crane box to my old coil+ wire, because technically there would be power to my old coil+ wire because once i turnj the ignition on the ballast recieves the juice and therefore would power the crane box correct? The only differnce between my wiring and factory wiring is that i dont have the extra brown wire going to positive side of my coil for added voltage during crankinjg because my coil is an e-core style coil and doesnt have anywhere for the brown wire to go to. thats the only difference between my wiring and factory wiring.

not trying to hyjack this thread, but i figured we are both wiring the same box to the same system so it wouldnt hurt the original poster to see the answers to my questions. Here is another question i have, is my coil positive wire still considered a 12 volt switched ignition wire even tho i do not have the brown wire tied into it for added voltage during cranking?

ok so how do i create a brown bypass wire for the added juice during cranking? where would i run it from? a switched 12v ignition source correct? where would be a good place to get a switched 12v ignition source for the brown bypass wire? the starter relay?
