No i don't. My brother worked with a now deceased idiot who felt that seat belt laws were BS.

I used to be anti seatbelt until a good friend and past employee went through the windshield of his truck. The truck wasn't hurt that bad and the passenger (who was wearing his seatbelt) is still alive today as are all the people in the other car.

That was the day I started wearing seatbelts like the law says. If you want to break the law then just be ready to pay the fine.

I think they should be required on school buses too.

I agree in buses It should be law . I agree its a good thing to ware you seat belt but i dont agree that it should be law

Shouldnt be ticketable below 30 mph. I can ride my Harley without a helmet though so i,m good.

I think there shouldn't be a need for seat belt laws. We should have enough intelligence to know what the belts are for when we see them and be wise enough to take advantage.
Learning the hard way doesn't allow a second change very often.
Think about it... If the restraints on amusement park rides were "use at your discretion"
would you ?

My dad was saved by seatbelts when someone cut him off in his 67 Barracuda Formula S 383 4 speed car. He had to put it in the ditch to avoid hitting the other car. Totalled the Cuda, but walked away with bruised around his waist where the seat belt saved him (lap belts only).

I also have been wearing them before it was a law. I was rear ended in a 67 Barracuda at over 90 mph and also walked away (with severe whiplash).

It's these freakin airbags that I hate. What good is a "safety" device that kills people. If a young kid is in the front seat without a seatbelt, it can kill them. WTF? And the government mandates that cars have them. If you have a good seat belt - and wear it, you don't need airbags.

Now they have front and side airbags!!! WTF? Why don't we just sit in a car with an inner tube and call it a 360° air bag. Not to mention the cost to replace them if you do get in an accident. Just the two front airbags in my ex's Neon were $2600 for the pair without installation. Now you have to buy side airbags. So if you are in an accident you will be paying around $5000 just to fix the airbags, then the cost of the damage to the car. This will cause many cars to get totalled rather than get fixed.

I was in an accident where the front steering wheel air bag went off. It caused my arm to shoot up and hit myself in the eye. I had a sore wrist and black eye for a week because of the dam airbag. No other injuries. Like I said earlier, what good is a "safety device" that hurts/kills you????

The only cars ive had air bags in was splot and the 95 buick . I dont think the air bag worked in splot (light was on ) I hope i never find out if the buicks works

Insurance companies make out better if you are killed in an accident rather then severely injured. Main reason for wearing seat belts is a law. And the same reason why not wearing helmet is OK. Everything revolves around Insurance companies. What ever works out better for them.

What do the people around you and your dad have against 67 Barracudas?

Used to think they were bs as well, then thought if I was in an accident unconscious and my kids(wearing sb's) were with me, who would help them as I would be either unconscious or dead....your seatbelt doesnt affect just you, you could have a passenger bleeding to death and need help

it should be common sense to use seat belts ....i don't want a steering wheel sandwich so i use them......im at a disadvantage bcoz i have to put seat pretty far forward to reach the pedals and everything which puts me closer to the steering wheel ........a steering wheel to the face or chest is not my idea of a good day.

air bags scare too bcoz im technically the size of a child (under 100 lbs.) and the air bag would probably do more damage to me than good .....luckily i don't have anything with an air bag right now.

hopefully i or any of you find out the hard way ....drive safely.....slow down...and put the dang phone away

It's these freakin airbags that I hate. What good is a "safety" device that kills people.

That quotation safety device saved Sarah from serious injury one time. A 65mph solid deer hit did a number on the car. She had fallen asleep and I didn't realize she took her seatbelt off when she did.

The air bag hit me and I didn't even realize it. It was the seatbelt tensioner that left a nice big welt across my chest.

Now, since the belt tensioner did it's job for me, let's think about her flying forward into the dash and possibly into the windshield since she didn't have her belt on. The air bag kept her from doing so. We both walked away with minor injuries.

The issue isn't the safety devices. Very rarely is a death or injury associated with the device, the injury is usually associated with someone's failure to properly use the device. Sarah was damned lucky the air bags deployed properly.

Take a look at my former business partner. The seat belt in his truck is always buckled. Always. He sits on it. If he sees a cop coming he slips the shoulder belt over his shoulder while still sitting on the lap belt. I asked him what he's going to do if someone crosses the center stripe on him. "Well, that's what air bag are for." Yeah, okay, the shoulder strap will keep his upper half from flying forward, but the lack of waist strap means his *** is gonna slip on the seat, meaning the bag is going to hit him square in the head, not in the torso, like it's designed to do. And he'll blame the air bag (if he lives).

And this is a man who had a serious head injury in a motorcycle crash. He swears the helmet saved his life. Ironic.

The stupidity of it is, besides the improper use of the belt, is that he doesn't see that it takes as much time to go ahead and click the belt around him as it does to slip the belt over his shoulder.

But then again this is the same idiot who won't hook up his trailer lights, even though he's already hooked up the rest of the trailer and it takes a second to plug in the lights, because "he doesn't want to have to deal with the plug."

This should be a Darwin Award thread. If you're stupid, then don't wear your seatbelts so you will be removed from the gene pool.

Those who don't get killed when in an accident while not wearing their seatbelts will need much more (costly) rehab than those who do wear them. This causes all the people insured by his/her insurance company to pay more premiums to cover those costs. The insurance companies make more profit only because they handle more money (in rehab costs and premiums collected). Don't blame the insurance companies, but instead blame the idiots without common sense.

Have you seen the Geico "rate suckers" commercials? This is the reality. The bad drivers (which include those whom allow themselves to be more severely injured because they shun safety devices) cause everyone's rates to rise as well.

Rant over - thanks, I feel better now. ;-)

Anymore its pretty dumb to not wear a seat belt. Maybe the ones that dont wear a seat belt feel things can never happen to them. However, when it is the law... it no longer becomes your right. Sure you can be rebellious and give the law a finger... but dont ***** when ya get caught. That was your choice. Then those that say... Its my decision if I want to fly out a door, or a windsheild in a acident.... is it ? Apparently there is no regard for anyone that cares for you. Wait until someone you love sees the paramedics pulling your smashed up *** off the hood of your car... yeah... dont wear that seat belt. Just ask ANYONE in the paramedic, police, fireman world how that looks. Like my buddy says who has seen this hundreds of times...... " It's easy to scoop up the remains of a idiot.... Its hard to watch their family as you do it"

There's a PSA commercial running in ND where kid doesn't wear seat belt and does header into his kid sister during side impact. He survives & obviously she doesn't. That was his decision and she paid price. That one makes impression. I have been to several funerals where friends went out windshield and were rolled over by vehicle. I'm a believer.

Well said RPM, I have talked to a few of my paramedic, police friends about this, and if I get hit in an intersection and the person that hit me does not have a seat belt on and he/she is killed because of it I have to watch the families members look at me like I did something wrong, or they want to sue the city for lights being wrong.. and I have zero tickets and have to pay high insurance fee's for the bad drivers out there...

When I see someone with out a seat belt on and in a nice new car using there phone and slowing traffic and swerving around on the state hwy I have a number... and I use it... so beware if you drive threw my part of the country and not give a hoot about throwing sigs out your window or being just plain childish, They better be respectable to the rights we have been given to drive a car... ok memike is dun on this.. well said RPM :glasses7:

If seat belt and helmet laws are so bad, than why have the racing sanctioning bodies made them mandatory? They have been a requirement for decades now.
A collision at 60 mph or 5 mph is the same in a racing vehicle as it is in a car or motorcycle.
Some people don't get this.

Do you have your own insurance that will pay for all your injuries incured in an accident without a belt or are the tax payers stuck with your bills. Wear the damn belt so we are not stuck with your bills. :violent1:

I wore belts religiously long before they were the law. First car that had belts was my 63 Impala SS, bought in spring of 70, next was the 69, then 70 RR.

I only needed them once--about '99 when they saved my life

I don't need a law to tell me to wear them,
