What does this mean for the 60's thru the 70's Muscle car?
Does it make them less impressive?

I watched what, I would call a state of the art build on a Flathead Ford the other day.
After all the money & time was spent, the dyno only showed 160 HP.
they were happy with that.
So, have the early Muscle cars become the flathead ford?
Thats the best they can do & we shouldn't compare them with the modern era cars?

A Modern car with the addition of Drag Radials, running 10.80's!
Not even the 1968 HEMI Dart/Cuda would do that out of the box.
Not to mention that there was no way to drive these cars daily.

It would seem that anything built from the mid 2000's would clean the clock on the older Muscle.

Should these two generations of cars be not compared in any way?

I think demand for the older stuff is gonna drop. Its hard to compete when the new stuff has just become so insane. Unless you swap in a newer engine, you're not gonna have a 60s/70s era car with 700hp, A/C, good handling and double digit mpgs. And with gas prices ever soaring, who wants under 10mpg, bad handling, questionable reliability, and no A/C?

The only reason i haven't jumped ship is that i don't like heavy boats for sports cars.

Makes sense to me.
I still dig the simplicity of the older cars, but if I was to pull up next to a new R/T Challenger in an 1969 340 Dart, I believe I would have to turn off at the light.
Who am I kidding, I would still race his ***! LoL

X2 The older cars will hold their value because of their age and their collectability. The new ones are fun though but the cammed up hot rod engines of the past aren't duplicated. Variable valve timing is getting closer. Our SRT8 has 425 horse but no cam so it idles like mom's Buick.

Interesting thoughts, Mike. Plus, add the fact how much lighter the Hemi Darts and Cudas were compared to the Hellcat and you really begin to see how far technology has come. Frankly, I am surprised that it took Chrysler this long to FINALLY bring something to the table, but I am really glad they have.

You have to figure in the horsepower per dollar factor too. Sure they'll have the 700 plus engine, but how many will you see on the road. At over $75.000 not many people can afford them, including me.

I don't waste my time comparing old with new. 40 plus years the cars should be better if not then what's the point on building a new car.

You want to compare old with new? Grab a 1928 Dodge and compare it to a 1968 Dart. Which one handles better, is easier to maintain and so on.

I love old cars for what they are and the new cars for the advancements they have. I don't like blending or comparing them.

the real question is, who has 75k and chooses to waste it on a hellcat?? I can think of a number of cars i'd want before the hellcat at that price point. A little more and you can swing a nissan gtr or a zr1 vette.

Not to mention, i suspect every hellcat owner will have the same track experience as an ACR viper owner i saw years back. An insane amount of hp, so then it doesn't stick and runs an embarrassing time.(the viper ran 13s, spinning most of the way down the track)

60's and 70's cars have been less impressive for a lot of years now. hell in the late 80's you could bolt on a few things and dip into the 11's and 12's with a grand national or mustang and still get 20 mpg along with a/c power windows and cruise control..lol these days there are 4 cyl cars that will out perform what was thought to be fast in the 60's and 70's..

thats already started. if you frequent other mopar sites you'll see it.. a lot of guys sold their old mopars for the new challenger,mustang and camaro. its hard not to.. i mean think about it.. yes the hellcat,shelby and zl1 are expensive but look at the r/t,gt and ss, they go for what 25-40 thousand to buy? you would have a hard time building a classic to perform like one of them,have the comfort of one of them for that money, and you sure as hell aren't getting a warranty with that classic car..

this is an awesome time for us. horse power wars are back man.. guys like myself that missed being able to buy new muscle in the 60's and 70's (i wasn't born till 1969..lol) now have a chance to do so..

what it means to me is that there will be a lot of broken challengers sitting in a service dept lot waiting for parts and a lot of pissed off owners that just found out that fiat isn't covering the repair under warranty...lol

oh and lets not forget all the ones that will get wrecked by the idiots that shouldn't even have the keys to a moped...

I'm sorry but I'll agree with the other guy. That car will more then likely cost more then 75,000. I'm not going to have that sort of money for a long time, but if I did I would go with a different car first. In all honesty 99% of the time your not going to be using 707 hp. Give me a car with a little less hp that can go around a turn and still run 11s in the quater.

Overall I'm excited to see cars being built nowadays but nothing I can afford or use to the fullest.

A-Bodies, with Blowers, without the Hellcat Price Tag, and no monthly car payment. It's a Win-Win situation.

Both of em have A/C too, one has Power Steering, both have Moonroofs/Sunroofs, Full Interior, etc.

Yes. And do you go grocery shopping in them?
My Y1 car was going to be my summer driver and have A/C.
I got rid of the RV2 and was to go aluminum pump.
But I had to move with my job and got rid of all my parts for the conversion.

After I posted, I took my Y1 car out for errands like I always do.
I pull out of the subdivision onto the main two lane. Blondie follows me in her black BMW.
Speed limit is 45 and she's on my ***.
I open up the Q Jet and pull away.
But there are cars up in front of me. How fast can I go anyway. 60?
I kept up with lead foot lady down the road later just fine.

At the Walgreens there is a family in a mini-van and father asks me about my car.
Later I get several nods from people.
Do I really need an expensive Hellwhatever that will go 10.8 in the quarter?
People will just look at me and think I'm compensating.
