stupid GM HEI conversion

All the way to the filter.

Its Mopar or no car.

Not Chevy in a Mopar.

Just funning with you guys. You can put what ever you want in your car, doesn't matter to me.

But don't tell me how great your system is, when the Chrysler elec ignition has been a proven system for millions and millions of miles. On and off the track.:prayer:

i don get why you argue

op wanted to fix his car not argue about what is best

spend four bills put an msd in it

Got the new ignition harness from mancini and that seemed to have cured it! I was thinking of another trick to do to this deal.. You know the 5th pin\wire that is not used in a 4 pin system right? ok, I thought about soldering a wire to that pin also and putting a eye on the end of the wire and screwing that eye to the module mounting screw, then using that wire coming from the 5th pin through the harness to ground to a bolt somewhere under the hood. That would be the ground for the HEI!

I don't see a reason that wouldn't work.

Not argue about what is best ?
So he should throw $400 bucks at it for MSD ?
Yah...That makes sense.

My question to the OP is, What was wrong with the factory ignition ?

Sounds like the ignition has been improved into a failure. :(

There is no point in arguing about it because we do what we want with our own cars.
And when we do, we sometimes get help doing it from other members (well some members anyway)
We are pretty sure we know your oppinion, and you certainly have not had any help to add that the OP needed for what he wants to do but just added the same oppinion over and over again.
I don't think I have even once seen a post from you that would help anyone with what they want to do, just bitching about it.

He actually upgraded to HEI but kept it looking like factory ignition. He had a problem with the factory ECU plug. So really that was what was wrong with factory ignition to begin with. He picked up a new ECU harness and his ignition is now working as it should.

To the OP, glad you were able to get this fixed and enjoy the new ignition.

Thats funny......Like I said, if you want to Jimmy rig your car, go ahead. No argument from me. :)

Glad you got it to work.

i wuz bein sarcastic. come to the wilds of the nw and you soon find you can't have all you want up here. you go to parts store, you get junk mopar box. only place is go to junk yard and maybe

One of the fundamentals of hotrodding,, is taking what the factory has to offer,, learn how too break it, - fix it, - and making it better and stronger, so the factory can impove it.. lol

Some of us are natural hotrodders,, others,, not so much....

Perhaps nobody's wrong,, but we are ALL different....

hope it helps

No ****!

I guess anyone that runs an MSD distributor isn't a mopar guy because they use gm style advance systems and ford/gm caps/rotors.

My car has a toyota camry alternator on it so I'm not a mopar guy? The giant mopar alternator wouldn't fit where I wanted to put it. It got ditched for one that fits and weighs a bunch less too!

:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Mine has an HEI ignition, GM alternator (simple one wire hookup done deal) AND a Chevy transmission...Im goin to HELL

some ideas needed here..ok, i need a way to fasten the HEI/heatsink to the firewall so it will be grounded to the firewall. (It is just taped up there in the Pic)

Tried to drill holes and secure it with these sheet metal screws but they wouldnt tighten up, i guess the firewall sheet metal is so thin it cant tighten down, just keeps turning.

and no, i did not drill the holes too big..

Is that your only option for a place to mount it?

Reason I ask is because ideally it would be best to bolt it. Able to get a nut and star washer on it so you know its biting in, and making a good ground. I mounted mine on the inner fender on the top ledge. Plenty of empty space on my car there.

If that is your only option to mount it how about a "L" bracket and bolt that to the lip just below the module in your pic?

Maybe use a ground wire instead of trying to get your ground with the attaching points.
Then your options might be better for attaching it.

You may find that there isn't a lot of room behind it either, (for molly type hardware) due to the vent cowl, so consider the ground wire option.
I know, it's another wire but...

Trailbeast,Where do you get the modules you supply in the kits? What year trucks do they fit?I bought a setup from you this past summer and thinking the module is bad.

I'll send it to you so we don't further destroy this thread. :-)

ya, i really wanted to ground it by mounting the thing to the firewall somehow rather than more wires..

Ha, the first thing I do when troubleshooting telephone problems is "jiggle the cord" 15% of the time thats it! glad you got it, gotta admit that video raised my eyebrows.

I used a piece of alum angle and used one of the original coil mount holes to hide the whole thing down under the air-cleaner, the other coil hole was used to mount the new style coil,

hope it helps..
