318 rebuilt Should i buy?

guy is selling me his rebuilt as so he says but it looks real good. he put he numbers of the block but i don't know if its X series or just a regular 318. Im putting it in my 65 cuda. He only wants 250 for it? so what do you guys think should i buy it is it worth it? what kind of 318 is it. Thanks guys

80-84 block. Standard heads of the same era. If I'm not mistaken, X blocks were 340ci only. Looks good for only $250.
 
is that a truck pan on there ?

you may need a centersump pan and pickup for your car
 
Make sure its not just a paint job! Pull the head, see whats in there. JMO. MT
 
I agree! New chain, new pistons or cleaned old pistons with NO ridge, MIGHT be a good deal! Hard to tell tho.

I was also thinking about not blocking the timing chain oil hole with a camshaft thrust plate bolt, or missing an oiling tab or oil slinger, and most importantly the oil galley plugs behind the camshaft thrust plate. It's a mistake that I see many times on engines that other people put together.... :banghead:

Some SBM don't have lifter gallery plug holes tapped! Just blocks off with thrust plate. Was cheaper to make I guess. And some don't have oil tab either. But Just about every Home built SBM I have seen has the slinger missing. :banghead: MT
