I have a 1968 barracuda fastback formula S 340. While working on the wiring I came across this switch that is located at the top of the gas pedal. It appears to be activated by the gas pedal. It has purple and white wire coming out. The white wire goes to a female plug that is currently not connected to anything while the purple wire feeds back towards the rear of the car. Anybody?

You sure it's factory? Does it open or close when activated, and "what" is the pedal doing that is up down, in between?

There used to be "a fad" to have rear lights like some buses in cities.......Regular stop lights, but green when driver was accelerating, and yellow when foot off throttle / coasting.

That's curious, I don't recall that on my 68 that I had, although that was nearly 40 years ago, lol.

Had a lot of abodys NEVER had one of those. Rustyratrod may be right. what do the wires go to, have you tried to disconect?? See if either has power or ground.

!!!DOH!!! IT IS THE BACKUP light switch it fell off the steering column!!!

I bet you money it is NOT actually attached to the gas pedal LMAO

Experimental stereo volume control. As you step on the throttle, the volume on the stereo goes up so it's not drown out be engine noise. Chrysler was way ahead of their time.

A better picture may help. Try looking at a wiring diagram for your vehicle; purple wires were not that common.

Old road racing trick, after the apex when you go hard, the brake lights come on. plays hell on the nerves of anybody sneaking up behind you!

I would do the same thing with the rain light in my Formula Vee :)

The car has no fender tag (removed prior to purchase), but has matching motor numbers and VIN numbers, the transmission has been changed(not by me) to a 904 with a manual reverse shift kit, it has a console shifter that may or may not be original (I haven't removed it yet to see everything). I purchased it from a family that raced other cars in Georgia. I was told that it was not raced but they were not the original owners either. When I bought it it had a 500 cfm holley 2 barrell on it, and edelbrock LD340 intake, and headers. There is no power at the wires, the white wire dead ends in a factory looking male connector, I haven't completely traced the purple wire, also the connector to the switch appears factory?

Here are three more pictures. One is with the wire connector off, one is with the pedal depressed so you can see the switch lever and one is the opposite end of the white wire.
All photos are sideways , sorry.

I do not know of anything factory on the g-pedal!

Connectors look like factory type but that does not indicate anything factory to me.

I would say well done NOS switch disguised to look. Like a factory switch!

A/C cut-out at WOT..or the rare factory clutched supercharger setup cut in on the Mr Norms GSS ala 'Mad Max'...:)

nah, its the electric switch for the cut-outs for the exhaust dumps

Dunno.... just observing when it changes, so maybe someone's mental light bulb will light up!

The other wires through the bulkhead are not factory either. Almost look like they go through the accelerator plate but seem to be just outside it.

See if your reverse light switch is unhooked.

Here's what this is starting to look like..........

Someone "may have used" the factory backup light wiring to activate a nitrous switch.

That 2 terminal connector you are holding looks like the backup switch connector, and the wire colors match.

Either that or it was "wired to something" and coincidence that your backup lamp connector just happened to be "hanging" there.

The other wires through the bulkhead are not factory either. Almost look like they go through the accelerator plate but seem to be just outside it.

The other wires going through the bulkhead above are part of my re-wiring to eliminate overheated connections at the firewall connector.
