1965 Dodge Dart 270 2 dr sedan

You might want to consider modifying the transmission crossmember so the right side pipe won't hang lower than the driver's side. On my Dart wagon with the slant headers I will be using, the front 3 exhaust pipe will cross under the oil pan after exiting the collector. By using a modified crossmember on the Dart wagon, the right side exhaust pipe should tuck under the floorpan nice and tight.

The temp gauge was ok Anders!

I installed the Comp camshaft today. But one thing got my attention. The oil channels from tje liftets will not be covered. Should I include the old plate too of make a new thin one? I could make a gasket too!

Any suggestions?

I think that if I don't plug that hole the engine can't get any oil pressure. When using an ordinary timing chain there is a plate holding the camshaft in place. As you can see there is no hole for timing chain lubrication. On later small blocks there is a hole in the right lower bolt holding the plate.

I plan to make a gasket that can block off the oil channels so the engine can build that oil pressure.

Besides that gasket I need to check how far out the camshaft excenter for the fuel pump goes. I need to get that clearence as it has from beginning. That would be a bummer....:banghead:

If those are pressure galleys just tap the holes and put pipe plugs in them to block the oil flow.

That's a good idea chryslerfat. I know on the other side there is pipe plugs. I didn't had any tools for that or plugs so I ended up making a gasket of copper. Turned out great so now I hope it will make it!

The gear drive is in place and adjusted too. Next will be checking clearence to the timing chain cover.

I measured the excenter for the fuel pump. About 5/16" but I would like 3/8 for safety. I could grind of 3/8" from the excenter.

Then the next issue showed up! The excenter does not reach the camshaft. I'm not sure what other gear drive users done. Do I need to go with electric fuel pump?

I'm guessing you're talking about the fuel pump eccentric which bolts to the front of the cam sprocket or the lever from the fuel pump that rides on the ecccentric. A picture of two might help.

Here you can see the problem with the gear drive set-up getting too far out. You will also see that there is no way to mount the eccentric on the cam.

Not sure what to do. I will email Milodon for sulutions.

I suspect you will have to use an electric fuel pump and a fuel pump block off plate on the timing chain cover

I think you are right Don. Mounted all the front cover, water pump etc.

When building a deeper oil pan I think I need some kind of protection for it. Didn't thet had some kind of skid plate on big block cars? Did they bolt it or weld it?

I tried to find out how much the distance from headers to inner fender is! But that is tuff to measure. Try and error!!!

If you decide to build a deep oil pan, you might want to add baffles to it. You might want to see if this is still available: http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?t=325280 Skid plates (if any) were welded on

The Spitfires that are on the way will have no problem fitting between the block and inner fenders on either side!

Looking forward to get them. That will be soo cool. Re the oil pan I have a plan how to make it deeper. I will add baffles too. I wish I could find a swing pick up.

I got a messege yesterday from a guy who says he has a set of 14 inch M&H Racemaster tires. I hope I can get them without getting robbed on the shipping cost!

Have him ship to you in Chicago and hand carry them back to Sweden on the plane. Even with baggage fees, it would have to be less expensive than shipping them.

The guy with the M&H racemaster tires got back last night. His tires were 15 inch. Since I'm using the 13' Cragar S/S wheels up front I think it will not look good with 15' tires up back. Checked out Coker Tites website and they have vintage 800/850x14 M&H vintage slicks. Just need to find out how much threads I need on the tires. The Police might go nuts!! :banghead:

FYI I see the package with the headers and windage tray cleared Swedish customs. Will be ready for you to pick up when you get back home:D

That is great news Don! Thanks for all the help. I will do some test mounting with Spitfire headers.

Thanks Don! The Spitfire headers arrived in good condition. They look awesone.

On the passenger side I need to relocate the oil filter. I can make it point to the front but I don't know if I clear the K-frame. On the drivers side the pipe will be between the torsion bar the the frame. The alternative might be the factory routing. But I'm not sure it will clear.

I took two pictures on my convertible with V8 and power steering. I know it will clear bettet without power steering. But it's tight!!

Any other early A-body owner with V8 and Spitfire headers? I would love to have picture on how it looks installed.

Thanks FABO.
