Stop in for a cup of coffee

It's a little disturbing when you buy a big ticket item for a car that is more expensive or almost the same price you paid for the whole car.

I already have more into parts for my valiant wagon than I paid for the whole car LOL

However, if you get the car cheap enough, then you will spend much more than you paid for it to fix it up right...

But the bright side is you saved the money on the original purchase... If you paid more for the car and then have to put all that money in to catch up on the neglected maintenance, then you would be in it for alot more $$$$... It's gonna cost the same to replace the components when you fix it no matter what you paid for the car up front...

It's nice to get the proper bolts with the kit...

They can get pretty expensive fast if you have to buy them at the store... Grade 5 or grade 8...

Plus, sometimes the stores do not carry the perfect length, and then you have to determine if you can run the extra thread, or grind some down on a bench grinder so it doesn't bottom out in the hole before clamping the parts together...

You need to get the proper thread engagement for a good hold... Rule of thumb is 1 1/2 times the bolt diameter for the thread length... Example: If you have a 1/2" bolt, then you would want 1/2" + 1/4" = 3/4" of thread length to get a good clamp on the parts...

more so than the expense of the bolts....its about convenience. The reason I am buying a kit in the first place is because I don't have time to piece stuff together otherwise I would.

so to buy a convenience kit and then still have to do a bunch of leg work …..no way

this looks good

I like that it has the bolts. I hate to be petty but If I am paying that much....I want the bolts included damn it!!!!

after paying that, I shouldn't have to do any leg work IMO

Right Stuff MDC66WKCS: Front Disc Brake Conversion Kit | JEGS

I like the Right Stuff parking brake cables... They look like the original ones and function better also...

We tried a set from Napa and they didn't look right or fit properly... Wasted money... Napa had plastic conduit where original and The Right Stuff had metal conduit...

The Napa cables had plastic coating on the inner strand of the cable, where original and The Right Stuff does not... The plastic coating on the strand will not fit through the slot on the parking brake strut lever and we had to try to trim it back some, and they still did not function properly.... We ordered a set from The Right Stuff and they fit much better and worked properly...

I bought a few sets of rebuilt KH set ups from 71hemixx, Jim... He used to rebuild them and sell them, but has stopped... They were nice, complete to go between the upper and lower ball joints...

I bought from ram man and he's good at listening to what you are using and recommending what you will need to get it to work... I got my master cylinder and prop valves from him and then went to the spot next to him and bought the steel lines from Fine Lines at the Indy meet many years back...

I am converting my 66 Valiant wagon to disc brakes and using a manual master cylinder... That way I can use any size cam that I like and don't have to worry about vacuum for the power brakes...

I am also going with a manual master cylinder.

I have never had an A-body with power brakes before and if I can stop an A-body with manual brakes then anyone can.
I am not sure how my manifold would work with vacuum accessories would work anyways....I have a Dutra Hyper-Pak manifold for this car so I also need the space so I doubt power brakes would work anyways, but mainly I feel I don't need them

I need memike in da house because I know he has experience with buying a kit from ram man.

that is the kit I am leaning towards

@memike

It's best to call the ram man and talk to him in person... I spent about 20 - 30 minutes talking to him at the Indy Meet and he taught me alot and was very helpful...

The ram man can recommend the proper master cylinder to use for your set up... He will make sure that the one he sells you will have enough fluid volume to run the disc brakes... If it doesn't have the proper fluid capacity, they will not work right...

I rebuilt the brakes on the Valiant wagon to be 10" drums back in the 90's, but have since reserved a set of KH discs for it... Now I have to decide if I want to remove the brand new front 10" drums and replace them right away, or run them for a while and then convert to disc later...

The next ones to the coffee shop will have a bit of catch up reading to do... we just added a page and a half already...

Karl it was an enjoyable back read. Wish I knew a pinch of what you know.....oh concerning cars :D

GOOD MORNING....lets get it going!!

An easy fall right in kit that is all 73/76 mopars parts. Love the kit, seems I got mine to the door for 600 or a little less

Run the big 10" for as long as you want, I would run them and check them out, I have a full spindle out set for our early A's

100 point guys!

Morning. Good backread.
Im happy i have a duster with disc brakes to upgrade the barracuda later.

Perhaps this weekend the metal hanging antics will be finished and i can move on to other projects. Smaller projects. Much smaller projects.

Nice morning, heavy smoke warning and 80 plus degrees today.
