A flipper/scammer gets busted

-
Why do you see vin plates with titles for sale? Do people not know its illegal or just dont care? Or is it one of those things that get overlooked alot?
It’s not illegal to sell vin numbers, but attaching the vin to an automobile that originally did not come with that vin is.

Just 'found' Tony's vids yesterday. Great stuff. This one is long, but together with the scammer one should be 'must watch'. Could save a lot of headaches and lost $...

The key here is the title is for the dash VIN tag which isn't the correct one for the car, that is a no-no.
A 73 made to look like a 71 (poorly), the next guy will probably buy it, may not care, down the road go to sell it...

This car is most likely a collection of parts from a wreck or a rusty hulk that had a title, put on a car that didn't have a title. Or they hoped nobody would catch that it isn't a 71. Definitely a no-no, and the seller knew what was done and may have been the one that did it.

Could be the guy selling it bought it with enthusiasm for 10k. Showed it to somebody that knew something and was shown what he really bought. Has 10k into it and looking to retrieve his money from the same type of buyer he was...…

All speculations on "what could be the real story"

thats not really legal either. they usually sell them as a piece you frame or something to get around the legal thing, not to put on and title a car with . ..

I've been in that situation and he handled it very well. The seller knows more than he's admitting, but probably is in the dark on some of it. So you educate and walk away if a number can't be agreed to. Honestly I think after watching that's a 4-5K car tops. I wouldn't pay 8 for it.

I was thinking 3500-4000!

The big question is what does he do now that he has been educated. Does he continue to lie to the next buyer(s) or come clean. Believe me, if they don't look under the car, he aint bringing anything up. My personal opinion, he knows EVERYTHING about the car. That whole "my cousin, I don't know, my dad, this other guy" nonsense didn't fly.

insta-clue just walking up to it, is the 72 & later rear side markers, but this guy knows his stuff. Good on him.
seller knows exactly what the car is & isnt as well....

Wow. Reminds me of me! I do the exact same thing when I go look at a car. I’m all over that like white on rice! I always look under the car first! LOL

Nice job Tony!

I haven't heard the term Fugazy in a long time. Definitely a new York term because Fugazy I believe was a Limo company, but never knew why people start using their name for BS work like he said of the trunk wiring being Fugazy.

Not Fugugly ?

Tony is on fabo occasionally. I forgot his handle though.

Sounds like a Italian /German import !

Had a nice '92 Toyota Camry (4 cylinder/4 speed) I purchased from original owner when my '85 Caravan finally stopped (for good) on the side of the freeway circa 2002.

When I advertised the Toyota for sale in San Diego, an "interested" buyer had his friend/mechanic come out to the car. When I started the motor, the "mechanic" began telling me about a certain sound the engine was making that predicted an almost fatal ending. He tried for a long time to convince me that this particular noise was present. I did not hear anything out of the ordinary and eventually sold it to a friend, who continued to drive it daily for years without a problem.

That will get you 15 to 20 years in a federal prison for changing vin numbers.
"No, your honor, I did NOT take the dash out of the car I bought with a good title, and swap it into the car I had, which did not have a title. I restored the car with the title, as I like that year better. I had to cut out the rusted parts, and replace them. As I had a parts car that would work, I used those. After working on the car, the only thing I could save from it was the dash, everything else has been replaced with parts from other vehicles" :)

I think the seller guy has no idea about the history of the car.. he just bought it for a few grand and is trying to make a fast buck.

I like this guy! I feel like in this vid he's talking right to me, and he has a lot of good advice.

Tony's a good guy. I bought a few parts from him on FABO when he was selling here. One time he sent me some headliners Bows that were wrong. He did not even ask for them back but sent the correct ones on his dime. Not a large ticket item but the honesty says a lot.

Well after seeing all this. I guess about 90percent of us better start crushing our own. Since we all have cars rebuilt from multiple vehicles..

It is not illegal to put parts on you car from other cars. Junk yards sell body parts all day long.
It is illegal to switch VINs and titles tho.
