Bad accident at work....again

-
There are procedures and they are not being used properly.
I have worked for this place for 15 years and I have never seen anything like it is now. The workforce is pathetic the people they are hiring are not fit to do this type of work. It's a high alert on your toes physical labor type job and they are hiring people thru a temp agency that can't stay awake! If you catch my drift.

then that falls back to management. heads must roll.. violate a safety procedure and you should be fired. this is direct reflection of poor management and lack of training.. saftety should be pounded into their heads until its the norm..

what kind of half assed **** is going on around there? are there no safety procedures there? thats nuts.. sound sto my like quite a few people need to be fired for allowing this to happen so often...

at work we have a 15 tear no loss work accidents streak going and they are still up our *** with new saftey procedures and paperwork.. sounds like your place could use a few...

.
It's not even that we need "new" procedures they need to enforce the ones we have and implement training procedures! You can't just sit ppl down in a 12 hour orientation class and read a bunch of procedures to them then turn them loose. They have ran off all the senior operators so we have new guess training newer guys. It's a effing mess. For the first time in 15 years I'm job scared.

I agree 1 million percent
OSHA should shut the place down before someone is killed... if OSHA doesn't shut them down the insurance company probably will with the crazy priemium increase...

.
This is exactly what me and my buddy was talking about . I hope they dont obviously but damn something has to change!

Oh cool kydex!! I make kydex holsters !!
You work at the Chicago one?

There are three Chicago branches, I work in the Bolingbrook warehouse, the second largest in the company... 550,000 square feet... We are the main hub on this side outside of Michigan where our main warehouse is and where it all started...

I love steel work I always wanted to go into machinist program at the community college but never got the chance to. I work on alot of guns and always was fascinated by turning a blank piece of steel stock into a usable part. It's so rewarding. I learned to use a lathe but that was as far as I got. And very basic lathe skills at that

Also guess who's pocket that insurance premiums increase will come out of?

no doubt.. the other problem is your customers.. some places aren't allowed to do business with companies unless their insurance rating is above a certain mark.. that many accidents in such a short period will kill that insurance rating..

I've had several jobs come and go. I've never been fired. I have been laid off by seniority due to lack of work. I've quit other jobs. When it's bad is when every one is laying off due to lack of work, then you can't hardly buy a job at fast food. But in your case, there hasn't been a better time in the last 40 years to lose a job with this job market.

I'm going to restrain myself from making poor taste hand jokes.
I think I can handle that long enough to post.
Crap. I did I say that?
Anyway, it sounds like a management problem all around.
Temp workers. Outsourced positions. Probably making low wages verses you.
It's been my experience you get don't always get what you pay for but you usually pay for what you get.

When I started with the USPS in 91 our facility was one of the few that had a cardboard baler. Was a custodians job to run the thing. Was friends with him. Guy was a raging alcoholic. He worked the grave yard shift, I worked the day shift. In 4 months I was called 5 times to go pick him up from the hospital due to him passing out at work from the booze. I was the only person that management knew he was friends with. Fast forward a bit, I move to AZ. Go back to the Jersey for a visit. End up at the facility I worked at. Jim was no longer there. In 4 different incidents he lost 6 chunks of his fingers in the baler. Baler was gone as well. Management knew all about his drinking problem but just simply looked the other way. Don't remember in which USPS manual it was in but management could not send us out for drug/booze testing. May have been part of the agreement that was made way back when the Unions were allowed into the USPS.
The facility I worked at was well known with the local OSHA folks. They literally had a check list that every single time they paid us a visit every box was ticked. The head of the one union, had a family member that worked for OSHA. Walt would get pissed off about something, go into the APWU office and call her. No longer than 20 minutes OSHA would be at our dock. If I remember right every visit cost the USPS $15k in fines.

And I'm a helluva hard worker lol. I'm up for a promotion rumor is I'm supposed to be getting a lead job idk know.
Just a heads up if you do get asked to accept a promotion, make sure you have a clear, written detailed report of policy and procedures from upper management to follow. It's usually the middle guys( supervisors/ foremen) that are the scapegoats for the bigger companies, when crap hits the fan. Wish you luck on the promotion BUT protect yourself!

A joke really...
Death of Worker in Fall Results in $100,000 Fine for Windsor Roofing Company
Huge joke... I have a small residential construction business. The amount of money I pay for wsib, working at heights training certificates is astronomical. 31 years with no accidents and still lumped together with all the "meatheads" out there. COMMON SENSE for employees and bosses (management) goes a very long way towards zero accidents. I tell my employees over and over that I want them going home to their families every night. I catch you doing something stupid...it will be your last day of work.

Good for you on owning your business! Also for enforcing safety. Where I work(municipality) there is $$/awards for "lost time" due to injury. Its political lol.

Time for desk to get cleared out. I am surprised you are still in operation. The staff you have may not be on point but those type of injuries should not be tolerated period. I always tell people that when you feel you safety is compromised at work stop right there. FYI- I work in the Printing industry and we have equipment that is to be taken seriously at all times.....

A machine had no emotion and will treat you as such....

I just got off the phone with my buddy he said they are shut down. I'm off today and tomorrow I go back on Wednesday. I guess I will see if we still have a job.

Well...That's bad and good at the same time. Most likely you will have a job, but would not be surprised if some changes are required first. So, maybe a short time off. So hopefully you continue in a safer workplace. Either way, you may want to have your résumé ready to go. Good Luck.
