When I was a kid my dad would pour his drain oil along the chain link fence to kill the weeds.
He would say. Hell it came out of the ground it won't hurt nuthin.
I know around here alot of ppl pour it on fence rows and driveways to kill the weeds and poison ivy.I dont recall people digging holes before dumping their oil on the ground. They just dumped it in the woods.
An old trick was to spread it out on your gravel driveway, it will harden it like asphalt over time.
That first ad has to be a joke.
They still use oil on the rural highways in northwest Missouri.
