Some of you are following the issues with the supposedly rebuilt 66/727 which is going back to builder. I have another, defiantly rebuilt, 1976 727 with TCI 121700 full MVB. I took it apart and cleaned/ air tested. This is for my 64/D100/440 project. It’s going to be my fun/show/driving whenever truck( no towing or hauling). I’ve never had MVB. This MVB DOES NOT have low band apply. It does have 2-3 engine braking per TCI. I’m trying to decide if I should TF2 a spare 904 VB or try this for awhile. Also, I’m guessing I have to undo the changes to the accumulator and servo. Let me hear your thoughts. Thanks Craig

When I turned my 65 Belvedere from race car to street,I left the 4.10's and the manual valve body. After awhile I soon tried of both the gears and MVB. Soon it will get 3.23 and a regular valve body. For me the harsh up and down shifting of the MVB and remembering to put it in low to pull out gets bothersome. Maybe because I see the "D" on the shifter (Mines a forward MVB column shift) or that I'm not pushing in the clutch. I don't know.To me it's just annoying. That's my 2 cents !

I thought transgo made a auto/manual shift kit but can’t see one. Cheetah makes an auto/manual valve body that allows auto/D drive and forward manual shift through all gears on our 727s so you can drive it either way.
converters
Says converters but the link will bring you to the valve body page.
CHEETAH Pro Street Manual/Automatic

Provide full manual control or permit automatic operation. Features positive shifts. Maintains stock shift pattern. Manual low gear anytime (Except Ford C4. Requires vacuum modulator hook-up with transmissions equipped originally with modulator. Passing gear linkage hook-up required on Torqueflite/Torque-Command and TH200 Transmissions. The kit includes valve body assembled where applicable and/or valve body with spacer plate, valve body gaskets, pan gasket(s) and step-by-step installation instructions.

Do you have one in your street car? I'm kind of looking for opinions too. Thanks

RMVB in my "street" car.

Best dam thing i ever did.

I had/ still have one of the TF2? TF3? VB and i HATED it.

That thing would not shift untill 2,800 or so and hit like a hammer.. if any cops were around they could tell i was coming. Couldn't keep the *** end of the car in a straight line on any kind of damp, dusty, or comprised road surface.

Now if i want, i can shift at 1,000-1,200 RPM before im into the torque, stay in a straight line and not be setting off every car alarm on the street.

Yeah sometimes i forget to bump it back into 1 at the light and kinda slip rhe clutches but most times im down shifting any way. In fact being able to dump it into first has saved me a few times from running a red light or rear ending the guy who slams on the brakes as he merged infront of me.

I do have it in my street car. It’s a forward shift maintaining the original shift pattern and admit it shifts very early with light throttle while in 3(D) but later under a heavy foot and higher rpm’s. The beauty is I can bang through the gears just like a manual valve body at any time and my wife can drive it too. I love the look on her face when she gets in it a bit. I really like it and It’s a good alternative for me but others may not like it’s automatic early shifts.

I always had manual valve bodies in my car when younger. Can't be bothered these days. I prefer an automatic shifting trans these days. If I want to manually shift I'll put a manual transmission in the car.

Manual valve bodies are what you want for a race car but for a street car why would you? Only reason I can think of is you don't have the knowledge to make a torqueflite shift correctly and I'm not knocking you, just saying. I've installed countless Trans-go TF-2 kits and never had a problem, although I know some little tricks that I do while rebuilding a TF that makes things work optimally. When I'm done them shift crisp and clean without overlap and at the proper rpm and do it all themselves or manually if I choose. I also do not prefer a "no low gear braking" valve body as that puts a big strain on the sprague which can lead to an explosion

Work has been in the way so I haven’t done anything. In my OP I said I was thinking about a TF2. I might have to get you to point me to the tricks. Thanks

I didn't mention that I've been driving my other 727 truck around manual shifting since Friday. I'm not going to use the MVB since it was getting old quick. I really enjoyed the 904 that had a TF-2... so I'm going with one. I ordered a TF-2 and the OEM reusable pan gasket. I'll remove a VB from either a /6 or SB 904 I have. I have to check the model years. IS there a thread somewhere about what sizes to drill and what not to modify with the TF-2. Thanks a bunch for the suggestions and comments.

I don’t know of a thread but as far as hole sizes go conservative. The line pressure boost help shift quality a lot. If you go too big on transfer hole sizes you may have shift overlap or harsh shifts. And do what I mentioned about only grinding the throttle valve about 1/2 of what they say. I’ve found 904’s aren’t quite as finicky as 727’s when it comes to shift quality

I experienced the same thing with a manual shift.
I like to kick back and let the trans do what it does all by itself, but also like the option of manually shifting it every now and then. I mean if I wanted to shift ALL the time, I'd get a manual trans.................. Oh wait; I did.......... Now there are times I wish I still had the TF-2/904/2800.... without the accumulator pinned.
I for one ,think you made a smooth move
