I need a set for a project and noticed the aftermarket ones say 67-74 for the complete ones. Have a friend who has a 75 valiant he is parting but I need them for a 73 Duster. Anyone know if they are in fact different after 1974? Thanks

I don't think there is any difference other than maybe where some stuff was mounted. So may have some holes in the wrong place. From building my 75 I can tell you some places just don't list ANYTHING after 74. Even though the parts they are selling fit 75 and 76.

Yes was hoping that was the case but wanted to tap all the expertise on the forum.
I know the firewall changed quite a bit for diff years and AC or not.. I think you will be OK, but I'd probably get some good pics for comparison before cutting. Only structural change I know from 73 to 75 was the brace from the flange between firewall and cowl to the fenders. The back flange was widened for the U nut, but don't think they changed anything at the front except the bolt itself I believe is a larger washer. Probably wouldnt matter anyway.

The inner fenders are the same except for some other holes that would be easy to fix as previously mentioned.
The '72 and older ones are different on primarily the passenger side where they don't have the indent near the front for the radiator overflow bottle.
'67 to '76 will physically interchange, but are different in a few ways..........

They all fit but are in two distinct groups, 67-71 and 72-76 because of the passenger charcoal canister area. Sometime in the late 71 timeframe they changed.

I have 75 fenders on my 73, small issues like trim holes etc.

I had a 74 parts car and a friend needed a right side inner fender for his 68, not even close, not just mounting holes.

Will they work, probably, is it correct? Different stamping.

This.

They’ll interchange 67-76. If you want them to be “correct” you don’t want to mix the early and late versions, and year to year there are some different mounting hole locations.

If you have a car with a charcoal canister and want to keep it you’ll need one with the indent on the passenger side. If you don’t have a charcoal canister it doesn’t matter which one you use beyond being able to tell the inner fender isn’t original to the car.

Anybody know to eliminate inner fender wells ?? Thinking of cutting them out , my concern is shock tower , trying to lighten the car up

They are semi structure for the fenders.
I would not do it, unless you have a full cage with “J” bars on the front.
Plus the inner fenders do not weigh much.

So on the stock chassis, if you remove the inner fenders you’re removing the only thing that triangulates the front frame rails and ties them to the firewall. They’re also the only thing that supports the shock mounts.

Unless you have a full cage that’s a terrible, terrible idea. Even with the inner fenders in place there’s still a significant amount of flex in the front half of the chassis.

Thanks for all who provided the info on the difference with the inner fenders. I will see if I can find a used set for the correct year. I wonder if the AMD ones are patterned after the 72 and up since they only have one type of inner fender that they are selling.

The AMD ones are patterned to be a direct fit for '71 and older a-Bodies.

That’s kind of a drag for anyone with a charcoal canister car. The inners with the indent for the charcoal canister fit the earlier cars fine. But if you have a car with a charcoal canister there’s no where to mount it easily if you use inner fenders without the indent. Guess it’s all about the guys with 70/71 cars looking “correct”

You asked about using 75's in a 73. I saw nothing here to say you couldn't use them...

Yes I have several a bodies and was thinking about the early ones in that response that I will need to source since I only have leads or extra later ones 74 and up and need some for a 71 as well.......unless I want to buy the new ones.

Disconnect the brakes and discard them. The car will never ever seem as fast any other way.
