Looks like we (me, son, son-in-law) are going to make an attempt on this. Buy and build a car to go 10's on throttle on a 5,000 dollar budget (even a 10.99). Street car I might add. Sorry, it won't be an A-body because of pricing. Most likely will be a 4 door. Already bought some pieces. The journey should be a blast either way

I may have a used solid racer brown cam and lifters I would part with for 100.00 if I still have it and you are interested. A buddy of mine had a set of adjustable rocker arms (273) that I think he wanted 125.00 for that he may still have.

thanks, but this will be big block :)

I built a budget 10 sec. 440 off of ebay parts. That was back when there was actually good deals on ebay. Some of the parts were comp solid cam and lifters 100.00, intake 125.00, ss valves 80.00, trw pistons 200.00and more I cant remember. also used dymanic 3800 converter 300.00 still works great after 15 yrs. Just have to wait for deals.

100% agree. We've already got a few of the parts - cheap. It's finding the right car. Looking for FMJ bodies. 4 door, ugly, bad paint, ripped interior will all be fine just has to be solid and be a driver. Don't want to dump the budget in full front end rebuild, etc.

LOL you want to buy Mopar that doesn't need a front end rebuild...lol..
I did turn down a $400 68 4 door valiant the other day that would have been a good sooter but I can't imagine not having to rebuild the suspension but again that's just a couple hundred dollars if you do it yourself...

I can't imagine that any less than two grand will go into the transmission rear end and body and about three grand into the motor..

I don't mind a tie rod end, or such. Just not doing a 450 dollar complete rebuild and alignment

just looking for the best deals, no matter how it gets dispersed. IF we can get there for less, great. 71-74 B-body 4 door would be awesome too. You get the point

No problem. Here's how you do it.
Weight is your enemy So after you get the engine and drive line as good as you possibly can on your budget, go on a diet. Take off the fenders, hood, doors, decklid, glass, seats (Leave lightweight bucket for driver), carpet and pad, headliner, and basically everything else that you can get off. It might not pass tech, but it will sure be faster. LOL, LOL, LOL
Seriously, there was an article a few years ago in a Mopar magazine about a guy that bought a 1962ish big Chrysler just to get the 413 (which was running really well). Just for grins, he ran it down the quarter and got about 18 seconds. He kept taking off more and more and more until the car was literally a shell. If I remember right the car was now in the low 14s.

little extreme, lol :D but we will eliminate weight. Again, it will be a street car

I wasn't talking about getting all kinds of trick suspension parts. I think I spent minimum amount on some moog upper and lower bushings and just regular parts store tie rods and ball joints and was not into it I don't think $150... My alignment was like $78...

I gotcha. But if I start with a decent driver, ya know, brakes and goes down the road decent, I'll be miles ahead. Again, ugly will be welcome. :D
