Super Victor port match?

Using the efi version of the super Victor on my stroker. I didn't think to check the port size until I saw a post last week, figuring that they would be sized appropriately for the intended application.

I'm going crazy between work and trying to get this thing wrapped up.

Thoughts on if it's worth my time? For what it's worth, the head ports are bigger, so I've got that at least.

WOW. Is it that small all the way to the plenum? If so, you’ve got your work cut out. If it gets bigger moving up towards the plenum, then match it until it blends in and you’ll be GTG.

What you don’t want is the port getting bigger at the flange and then getting smaller back up the runner.

Finger and MK-1 Eyeball says that it's the same all the way up, but I'd have to spend some time taking measurements. It seems like the ports are 318 sized honestly, which is kind of a dick punch, considering.

See what I'm saying? I'd like to see that same pic with a small port 318 steel gasket.
 
I’ve posted on here many times on how bad the Super Victors suck. I got one in a package deal for the right price but would never pay any where near what they want for one. Lots of work and time on my flowbench but I did end up going 9.74 on my Edelbrock headed 408 with it.

I'll try to find them. Did you clean it up in 1st. inch or so?, or did it go much past that? thanks.

I never stop at one inch. The whole intake is worked when I Port one. Probably one of the hardest intakes I did was for a class car that I had to open and blend all while staying within 3/4-1 inch max.
 
I gave up on that stuff and just buy new intakes from Hughes Engines with their deep port match package.

Unfortunately there's not a lot of choices for intakes with port EFI, but I'm definitely not feeling the love got Edelbrock right now.

I've got a couple weeks while I'm waiting on the machine shop, and almost everything else is done, guess it's grinder/dykem time.
 
That is (unfortunately) par for the course for every Edelbrock manifold I have ever had (RPM, RPM Air-Gap, Victor). My current Victor manifold looked worse than that when I started on it....a few hours with a grinder made it real nice though. Good luck.

Mine too, lots of core shift.
 
The Super Victor is not a bolt on and go piece. Its a serious RACE intake with ports cast small so as to let the end user tailor the ports to their engine. The ones I've worked with needed a lot milled of the mounting flanges just to get the bolt holes to line up, even on uncut heads. That being said my M1 single plane was undersized just as bad.
 
So best case - worst case, how much HP or ET would a full port job of that SV intake be on an engine that could utilize the flow? Say a good 408 with heads that flow 275ish.

A Victor340 would be a perfect intake for that flow with a gasket match and plenum blending. Super Victor would too with more work. Both are very capable of running 9’s@3000 pounds on a 408 with the right combo and a few more head cfm.
 
maybe match the intake to the heads - not to the gasket. more pics please. I like to leave the head ports slightly larger than intake because I dont know exactly how the ports will line up to intake when bolted down. does anyone port while intake is bolted to head? average cfm = super victor -287, LD340 -298, full port super v - 330

Heads are already ported, and all the way out to the gasket. I'm done in the garage for the night, but I'll take some more pictures tomorrow.
 
Yep. Core shift and a ton of work.

I need to take some careful measurements, that's a lot of material, I want to be damn sure on wall thickness.

We still use castings for a few high volume things at work, Edelbrock really needs to get their act together at the casting house.

I’ve had to weld on some of those before grinding.
 
Yowzers. Unless those pucker down at the ports a good bit, you are going to need some significant wall thickness in order to blend that smoothly all the way in and not make it into a trumpet at the head. Good luck.
 
WOW! That’s bad. Shame on Edelbrock. They need some QC! The Weiand I have.... I thought was bad... until I seen this! Yikes!


And at 438.00 it's not like it's a cheap intake. Like I said before I got mine in a cheap package deal so I probably have 200.00 in mine but I would have been pissed if I paid that much for it and had it sitting there with my Victer340 and expected great things out of it. Keep in mind it will work and did on my Duster running 9.74 so it isn't garbage.

"Fortunately" it was part of their efi package, but still an expensive setup at $1700. I finally got my bearings in and the motor is at machine. I've decided to ignore the intake for now while I think over what to do, time to go through the front suspension. That should keep me busy for a few weeks.
