ET Report Card on the Speedmaster Heads

I do. May go to 4.88’s when I do the Dana.

Both of my bracket cars have 4.88’s but they also have 14-32 slicks. When I ran 9.42@138 it was either out of valve springs, cam (solid lifter) or carb (850) she was laying down before the 1000 foot line. I think I bought 3.70’s for my heads up car. They are still sitting on a shelf as I have 4.30’s in it for some NA test hits.

gears would also ease the pain of my transmission a little...

I wish I was closer. I have a 3.23 open you could try or swap. It would be another interesting video to switch nothing else other than the rear gear and note the performance increase. A 3.55 would really be a plus and not be too radical for highway driving.

It took me years, lol years to become wiser and finally figured a taller tire will tame gears and do/help a lot more. lol

Good heavens you talkin about the Dana again?... You've been working on that idea for a couple years now haven't ya?

LOL...I still have the engine on the stand and the K member on the saw horses. I’m WAAAAAAAAAAYYYY behind. Plus I have more work coming in.

I have to put my seats in hook up my throttle cable and put water in the car and I don't have time...

I'm feeling you there, there's so much other stuff to keep up and do there's never enough time to work on the recreational stuff...
But an in between plan for 318WR. Get some 3.55 gears swapped in and then a set of 16X7 steel wagon style wheels for a truck with some tall and skinny tires to drive to the track on, then swap tires to run.

The other thing is if you swap 1 thing at a time (like I just did on the heads, and how I like to do it), it takes forever to get it to the track because of schedules. Also, it cost a whole lot more.... I paid 40 bucks to get on the track, then gas and food. Between scheduling and money, I almost can't do a "change one thing and make another pass at the track". But I did it on the heads.

I also think it's worth noting that I did a lot of front end work on the car, and never had it aligned. Could easily be a tenth or more in alignment. Now, this would have nothing to do with the head comparison, but just say'n....

Cam, gears, sure grip.

If you want to keep using the current stock converter I wouldn’t get too carried away with the cam.

Get the carb sorted out too.

I was thinking the Lunati 703 cam. I'll go up on the gears, but not a lot. Either 3.23's or 3.55's, whichever I get my hands on first. I'd like to pull the tranny and do a few upgrades including the converter, like a 9.5" PTC or Ultimate.

My end goal with this car was to knock a full second off the 1/4 times to run with my son's Scat. I was going to change 4 things and I guess that would average 2.5 tenths per item.
  1. Heads
  2. Cam
  3. Converter
  4. Gears

When am I going to get a chance to introduce you to my tail lights!...,lol..

I am not even close right now, I was not going to do any more engine projects and some how I wound up with five and a set of heads to port, really cut into the fabo time. As far as keeping up well frankly I have no idea lol, hp wise I should have you covered no problem :D, but I have a full weight street car with an od four speed so, on second though scratch that, all you would be seeing is the very sexy *** end of a green go dart lol.

The sexy end of your Dart must be the front grill which I will be seeing in my rearview mirror lol... You don't stand a chance...

Funny how you actually show how some basic hot rodding can your car go pretty good with low cr no performance gears and stall, but on thread after thread people keep saying it can't be done. Keep up the good work.

Yeah, right. Those of us who've been around "awhile" know exactly how old school mods can work well. I remember being just a kid in school doin cam swaps for classmates till 2AM. I stabbed um in advanced "as I saw fit". Always WAY too big. LOL But they ran damn good for "what they were".
