Turlock Spring Swap Meet 2020

-
For some reason, I thought they (state gov) wasn't going to allow more thAn 250 people to attend. I'm glad it's on. Unfortunately, we already have "plans" on Sunday.

Btw: I hear that Spring Carlisle is iffy. The State said they would sue the venue if they had an open/unlimited attendee show. They said they could have a max of 250 people as long as there were barriers between vendors and buyers. Yeah, that sounds like the makings of a great car event.

Spring Carlisle is this weekend. The state sued, but the argument is that this is NOT a gathering, but a conducting of business. Also, they are arguing that since this is an outside event that the limit does not apply. We'll see what happens.

Somebody get pictures. We're not gonna make it tomorrow. Too much family stuff and get to see my new granddaughter.

Will do! And congratulations. I know of at least one space dedicated to mopar stuff. Thinks he’s an a100 guy, so pretty excited to see what he has.

Found some good Early A stuff (273 commando air cleaner, carb, intake, and 340 exhaust manifolds, plus more misc parts). Would’ve loved to pick it up, but have to balance wants and needs.

So did everyone have to wear mask?

We’re the spots or rows more spread apart?

Did they have additional hand cleaning stations? Additional PortAPotties ?

Need to know this info for Fall Fling. Although the City and County of LA is a whole other ball of wax. Just need to know how other events in CA are doing this.

Thanks

I wasn’t an organizer, but as an attendee:
  • Masks were not required (Maybe 10% of folks wearing masks)
  • I saw two or three hand sanitizing stations, with apparently watered down sanitizer.
  • Saw plenty of porta-potties
  • A lot of vendors wore masks and/or gloves.
  • Lots of fist bumps instead of handshakes
  • I heard that a lot of people came from LA and Oregon due to a lack of events elsewhere
I will add that people in the area don’t take COVID seriously, small portion of people wear masks in public, and our local sheriff has stated the he will not enforce COVID guidelines/rules.

Thank you so much for the detailed response. And that info about the local situation is very important. Really appreciate it !!

Sorry if I’m not picking details, but this is very important to the organizers of Fall Fling. This is the first car show or swap in California since the shutdown....

If you can remember, were there hand sanitizing stations in the past?

If you can remember, were there more portapotties than past?

You’re good! More portapotties than I remember, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen sanitizing stations.

I missed it today... even though it's just around the corner from me.
had other things going on.
I wanted to pull the Dart out today, but I"m low on fuel. Needs to be washed anyway.

Tell everyone its a C.A.R.B protest rally. No one checks those for PPE or distancing. And have a few nice cars parked there. Today as our first open church in 3 months. 400 person seating had to be <100. Temps were scanned on entry to campus and we sat by family in odd numbered pews (distancing) and wore masks the entire time. Ushered in 1 family at a time, seated and were excused the same way. No donuts and coffee, no visiting before or after. Pretty regimented but better than watching it online in your pajamas. I thought CA was trying to flatten the curve, not stop it cold at the price of commerce!

I have never seen sanitizing stations at any Turlock swap meet. There have always been porta-potties. As a matter of fact, the Flings were the first shows that I have seen with hand washing stations next to the portables. In more recent years I have seen them a few other places, but still rare.

We're looking at the same type of circumstances next Sunday... First service since Kung-Flu got spooled up.
Was it awkward?

Gavin Nuisance can eat my *** after 8 hours of construction work in the summer.

Nah, anything is better than being at home for worship.

Very true. My wife is in charge of compliance.. it's next to impossible to enforce the 6 foot thing in some areas of the church. It's going to be interesting.
I'm all alone in audio/video.

Steve, although early, at this point do you foresee the show requiring vendors to wear masks/gloves?

To early to tell.

I don’t think vendors will have any different requirements than spectators. So I doubt gloves will be a requirement.

We have the park reserved. And just like every event, it’s a wait and see.

So we might not snail mail Fall Fling flyers out as early as the past. Also, we might not print them in fancy color glossy paper.

I think (hope) people will understand. Committing early money to decorative stuff is a risk in these uncertain times.

Steve, yes people will understand if the flyer isn't fancy or mailed out. If we make it I will be registering on line or waiting until we get there. Like many people I do not own any checks anymore and I don't mail my card numbers. I either use cash in person or debit/credit card in person or on line or occasionally over the phone.

We've had hand washing stations at our Inland Mopars Car Club "Mopars in May" shows the past few years.
The first year had them we learned the hard way that you need to have them situated where a show staff member can keep an eye on them. We had a couple of kids 'appropriate' all the paper towels and use them to clog up the urinals in the porta-potties.
Musta been them bowtie and blue oval kids! LOL
