Hey everyone, i have a 1980 D150 2wd short box with a Slant 6 and a A833OD 3spd. I'm swapping out the 6 for my 360LA
engine i built, but i want to keep the manual transmission, is there a bellhousing adapter plate kit available or do i have to search for a small block bellhousing assembly?
Are the flywheels, clutches etc different?

Any advice on this subject would be greatly appreciated, first time doing this.
Thank You, Ashton.

I have the same truck but an 82, slant and 833OD. It takes a 10" clutch, I don't think that matches up with a SB but one of the gurus should be able to weigh in on that. The bolt pattern on the OD is different than a standard 833 4-speed, so make sure the SB bellhousing will bolt to it.

The bellhousings are different between slant and SB. The starter is in the high position on a slant, and low position on a SB.

I've been seeing these aluminum adapter plates for sale but they are all discontinued, so that makes me leery.

You need a V8 OD bellhousing at a minimum and possibly the Z bar from a V8 truck.

i have an 87 D100 with a slant and 904, which is likely to remain a slant (but a stout slant) and either the 904 or an A500. I do have the cast iron 64-67 adapter.

What is a Z bar?

HAve you called brewers yet, they will likely have any part you need, or at least know what part you need to get.

I think you will also need a truck oilpan/pick-up, engine brackets, and probably a bigger radiator. Plus an exhaust system, obviously.
Plus;
my '84 had so much wheel-hop that I had to fabricate a pinion snubber, and
if your driveshaft has 7260 joints, they might not last long, especially if you let the wheel-hop hammer them.

I have the truck oil pan and motor mounts, im definitely going to have traction issues, the engine is actually a 360 stroked to a 408. Thanks for your help!

Well, a 408 is not a 360. Everybody knows what a 408 is so you might as well call it what it is.
In the light of recent updates,
you 408 is gonna ,sooner than later, blow up that weakazz overdrive gear. And when it does, the blowed-up parts can take the rest of the trans out with it. So you might as well shop for a regular A833, and matching BH. I have blown three of those od boxes up, all in the same summer, all on the street, none with a 408, 2 with a 367 and 1 with a 318.
And I would change; "probably a bigger radiator", to
for sure, a BIG radiator, lol. And upgrade the rear joints to 7290 for street / 1350 for racing, and a real driveshaft, and the rear end will have to be at least scrutinized.
I know, I know; I'm such a killjoy,lol

Not kill joy, just good information!

OD Bellhousing.
Appropriate flywheel. Internal or external balance, whatever matches how you had the engine balanced.
10.5" clutch assembly.
The Z bar is the clutch torque rod assembly according to the factory service manual. It is the piece that connects to a bracket I believe bolts to the bottom of the cab on yours and runs to the bellhousing. It is a round tube about 1.5" in diameter and maybe 12" long with an arm sticking off each end. One end has the linkage from the clutch pedal and the other end has the linkage going to the clutch fork. Get under the dash, find the clutch pedal. Run up until you see the clutch rod that goes through the firewall. Come outside the truck and find where that rod comes through the firewall. Look what it attaches to. That's the Z bar. I BELIEVE the z bar and the clutch fork are both the same from slant six to V8. I BELIEVE. I could be wrong.

The biggest thing from this is to make SURE to get the correct balanced flywheel. Internal or external. Whichever one matches your engine.
