Curious what makes you say that? Like I said, open to all opinions
My experience:
Met both of them in Carlisle.
Spoke to Dan Brewer at length, there, and on the phone about everything from transmissions, clutch pedals and driveshafts.
Tried speaking to Passon too, but to no avail.

Dan posted that he had just gotten a couple of DC Main cases at a swap meet.
They might be gone now.

I did my own with some help from Dan, thank you, and Liberty did my gears.
So far I am very happy with the box.
However it's behind a 300 hp slant six in a 2200 lb. car.
Liberty was very slow doing my stuff.

Back in the mid to late 70s, I ran an A833 in a 67 Camaro drag car. My car builder just did the slick shift mods on 2nd gear by grinding off every other engagement tooth on 2nd gear and every other spline only half way across on the 2nd gear side of the slider. This allowed keeping a synchronized 1st gear. We sent 3rd and 4th gears to Liberty for pro shift mods. I raced it for almost 2 years before selling the car. Never had any issues both dropping the clutch and shifting at 8000rpm.

The great thing about Brewer's is, Dan is a member here and posts pretty regularly. He WILL answer your questions and concerns. That's worth a lot right there.

Lisa is no slouch either, she's answered a bunch for me, and if she didn't know or wasn't 100% sure, Dan helped out.

I rebuild my own... Pretty easy stuff...
What's wrong with it?..
Nothings wrong with my current one. It's just that it's a pickup OD version that will definitely not stand up to 600 hp and slicks. I need one built that does

If it's an aluminum case that's probably not good...
There's really no difference in strength except for probably the overdrive gear. Which you would never see in a drag race. Your biggest fall back would be the long split in gears which may or may not help....
Anyways if it was me I'd buy the parts and assemble it myself... It's not like they're going to give you a warranty for your intended purpose...

Looks like Brewers it is! I had a lot of faith in Dan after I talked with him and the people have spoken the same

Took mine into Liberty for a rebuild, turnaround was just over 3 weeks, Brewers had a 1 year turnaround, that along with Liberty being local to me helped with my decision

I called Brewer's within the last month to rebuild a b-body trans for me, over a 1 year wait.
Contacted the guy who did my a-body trans a few years back, ordered parts from Brewer's and had them sent to him, had a completely rebuilt trans within a few weeks.
He's a member here, but I don't recall his fabo name, chimes in at the end of that A855 thread.

I dealt with Jamie Passon a couple times. He is the one who answers the phone so I assume he does not have a secretary.

First time i assembled a trans my uncle tore apart 20 years prior. Called Jamie (2006?) and got the advice and parts i needed. Also got a schematic because i was in the dark.

Now I have two of his 833 hemi overdrive gearsets.

i had Jamie assemble the first trans because I did not have a spare case at that time. It was quick (pre-covid)

Second time i got the gearset and it took about 2 months because of lead times and covid.

Never any issue for me.

I have also dealt with Brewers a couple times but i have never ordered anything major and also no complaints about them either. Never spoke to Dan just got my order and waited for parts to arrive.

I can't advise on who should rebuild your transmission

I would advise using a hemi 18 spline transmission. I ran a 23 spline A833 for less than a season with 14x32 slicks and the green clutch launching and shifting at 7000 with a 340 and the input shaft had taken a permanent twist in the spline just aft of the clutch disc. I don't know how much longer it would have lasted.

Your clutch twisted that input. A 23 spline will take way more power than your 340 put through it. That green clutch was garbage the day they drew it up on paper. 3400 pounds, and IIRC it was 3 roller assist. At 7k that probably had 4500 pound of load. Maybe more. That’s what kills parts.
