my 1st 340....yea

It's good to have a 340 once you get into it you'll see how much beefier the parts are compared to a 318. Alot of 318 guys have never been into a 340 they think a 318 is same it isn't.

Not necessarily true. Only the block, pistons, and crank are different, almost everything else is or can be the same for next to no money. 318 blocks, even the cast cranks are plenty strong for most people.

Will do tomorrow when I visit the machine shop
Heads were never on the block
vin on front of block ,date code wonder how that relates to the build date of the car

mounts don't do much for you because you have a /6 K frame, but i'd pick them up as trade fodder or to sell. if the timing cover is correct nab it.

pulleys are always good to have around, you never know what you'll need. remember the early stuff is different bolt spacing and waterpump (shorter) so all of that is specific to pre 70. grab what you can.

the balancer is whatever. it's likely shot anyway.

Did you get 340 motor mounts with engine? The ds mount is 340/360 specific. BUT you can shim/weld/space a 318 mount to work. A welder and 10 minutes....

I would never use a 50 year old damper.

The rubber goes away and they don’t work correctly.

my latest finds another $325 in the dart hole
i hope correct timing cover ,another dampner (will most likely buy a one but came with the cover)
engine mounts (one was welded ...dose that make it a 318 ?)
2 grove crank pulley
oil pump drive ...i hope 340 one
waterpump ...now i need to find a rebuilder ..he says i cleaned out all his 340 stuff
guy has a super bee with a 426 hemi ready to go in ,his brothers max ..cool and his sons 65 beliveder with a 502
going tomorrow for a gts hood

So, are you trying to collect pre or post 70 Stuff for the front of the engine? All of the components have to match depending on the direction that you go.......Including the rad.

So not the right one ?
It's a 68 & earlier cover, 69 is one year only, the removable timing tab was eliminated in 69 & a cast in tab similar to the 70 tab but located on the passenger side like a 68 & earlier cover was used.... Only the most anal person will ever see it & at the end of the day your building a clone so don't sweat it...

BTW I built a clone 30+ years ago... Sold it & regretted it.... Now I have it back... So don't think I'm putting down clones.. They are great cause you can change stuff without guilt...

Timing cover and water pump are compatible for pre 70. That tc is technically for 67 and parts of 68 small block, but was never used on 340.

Is it the right waterpump
Cast iron will need to be rebuilt
