What Carburetor Works for Chrysler LA 360?

-
We sold Engle Cams to So Cal Imports and the company is still going. Their main focus is VW cams. When they can get cam cores, they can do any of the grinds we always had.
I am still using Engle Cams.
Have been many years.
The machine shop that used to be around the corner from my work recommend them many years ago.
Here's two of my cam cards. The first one one worked so well had a new one ground many years later.
I have a hydraulic flat tappet 2430 think it is .504/515 with 1.5 ratio (.538/ .549 with 1.6) rockers. It was ground at the old shop address too.

Holley 3310 are easy to get to work as well as AVS 2

I have had far better luck with the demon carburetors that are loosely based off the old thermoquad design, especially with the phenolic bowl. It's my go to carb for most any street performance build.

I like those, been running one on my Duster for years but not as tuneable as I'd like. Then again my 360 is a little hotter than a typical "street performance build."

For a mild-cammed 408 the 750 cfm version would work great, just make sure the fuel system is up to the task. Those carbs are sensitive to leaning out slightly in the upper RPM range if the fuel supply rate is marginal for the HP level. I confirmed this with an engine builder I met at a racing event, he found those carbs need a rising-rate fuel pressure regulator to maintain AFR on high-HP engines. I doubt that's relevant to the OP's build but figured I'd mention it.

I don’t know about jetting.
With 650cfm Holley 4160 I ran out of carburetor (wasn’t getting enough fuel) in a low compression 340 at 90mph and the engine got too hot.

Wouldn’t he need more than 750 cfm with a 408 if he is going to run it hard?

That’s a pump problem not a carburetor problem

We were one of the first cam grinders to take advantage of the larger .904" lifter in Chryslers and get more aggresive with the lift in the 1950's. These KV profiles were are latest and most extreme. Our classic K-8 grind in a chrysler is exactly the same rise and fall table as our RK-38 Roller grind in a chevy. So it takes a roller to be as aggresive in a chevy as a flat tappet in a chrysler.

Engle used to make all the cams for Hughes. More recently Howard’s does, with the Arrington tooling they bought
Correct! We screwed up real bad with Hughes, my brother send one of Their cams to one of our customers and they stoped dealing with us right then.. BIG MISTAKE!

Whichever carb you decide on, you will need the appropriate throttle/kickdown lever adapter for Mopars.

And don't forget the throttle stud, available from a variety of suppliers-

Depending on the manifold you intend on using, you may need a longer throttle cable to reach some of the taller manifolds- usually a slant six cable will reach with plenty to spare.
As far as cable attachment goes, AR engineering makes a nice adjustable one that should reach most all height manifolds, but will require using an aftermarket cable style kickdown linkage (Lokar, Bouchillon, etc.)

Thank you, and where do I get that Automatic throttle stud? Mark

Jeg's, Summit, EBay, and others- here's one from Mancini:
MRE - Carburetor Linkage Stud
Note like I mentioned earlier, most times the nut isn't included- so a trip to the hardware store (or your parts bin) is in order.
And for the heck of it, a pic of how it all goes together- linkage adapter, throttle stud, throttle cable and kickdown linkage. Holley and Edelbrock/Carter are similar.
