AFR MOPAR 340 HEAD TEST!

Dulcich must have the software version from the old mag dyno mill at westech :)

The jump in output makes sense to me.
Another point of compression from the smaller chamber with quench, better flow characteristics.

Starting from scratch, no rusty boogers in your futrure. Pick your approach.

What is a mag dyno mill?

Probably something like this xe268h cammed X headed (not ported) 340 392 hp 412 TQ , can't find a ported one yet.

For the budget minded guy, seems to me it would be a more viable way to go by selling a ready to run kit using the speedmaster heads. The performance seems likely to be extremely similar, and the cost would be significantly less.

10-20 more degrees and 0.050"-0.100" more lift would really wake that 340 up, I feel a lot are glossing over how small of a cam their running.
You are correct. Not everyone needs the extra though. 440 lb ft and 440 hp from a docile 340 street engine is damn near a perfect combo for street driven car.

just under $2000 for the AFR heads, I also wonder how the test would have compared to a decent pair of 2.02 X heads. The 360 head had 1.88 intake valves
For reference Dulcich build a stock bottom end 340 with X heads that made 400hp with the same cam about 20 years ago. Magazine article for Mopar Muscle if I remember right.

You could spend 2k on sh#t for your car that makes 0 hp, I don't really get the argument, it's a pointless argument and has near zero to do with the thread.

2,000 / 65 = $31 a hp

Say you got a mild 350hp 360 now you want 200 hp increase to 550 hp 408 and only the block is being reused, plus your gonna upgrade tranny rear end brakes tires and rims exhaust etc... to handle/work with it, is $20k+ for 200 more hp worth it ? $100+ a hp ?

100%, To me that's the big take away, a 440 hp under 6000 rpm 340 with an xe268h cam.

it absolutely has bearing in the discussion, if you can't see that for yourself then i'm not going to waste the breath explaining it to you.

Also Richard got around 390 hp too with a low cr 360, airgap, headers, mild pocket ported 360 heads with 2.02 valves added and a xe268h cam with 1.6 roller rockers.

It's a little disingenuous to say "65 hp for $1500" because you would have had to spend money on the iron heads to make them fresh enough to use, THEN add up your time porting them. So the actual cost difference in the real world is almost zero.
I have a set of J heads well only one that is good at this point, i bought them from a friend, he had them ported in the 90s and it was a $1000 just for the port work, no valve job, they did work great i ran them on a 360 in my Duster and it went 10.60s.

The last set of J Heads I had done was $1600.00.
New hardened seats. New Guides, Port Work/ Good Vavle Job add in Srings and Hardware.
$2000.00 Out The Box Aluminum not far away. And I ended up having a Guy who lost his Job at Checkers Auto Parts offer me a set of 25 year old new in box Eldebrock for 1200 delivered to my door. I asked for a week to get cash together I just had a grand at my home. And was working out of town. We get paid when jobs completed.
A few days later says if my wife can give him a thousand call it a day.
I was not even beating him up on price. He was happy and so was I.
But now a have a $1600.00 set of 202 J Heads laughing at me.

The video is missing something, who does a head change and doesn't check lifter preload? lol

I could possibly set that up with Richard and Dulcich. But I’d bet Dulcich already has some ported iron x heads he’s going to test. Doesn’t hurt to ask if they’re interested.
They're clearanced for a roller on the tubes. Im sure he does, probably a few sets. All those yrs with the magazines and heads n testing.. his place is a stockpile. Lol.

Mine are decent though...they move about 250cfm at .400 lift and 280cfm at .500. The .300 is 200's.

On one RoadKill. He needed some stock heads for a 360 as they messed up the old motor doing doughnuts in a field..
Went in shop storage and came back with mild ported angle milled heads.
He's got stuff stacked like cord wood

I think I remember watching that too.

I like those numbers especially at .300 and .400
