I have a 904 from a '72 A body, and a 904 from a '72 E body. I'm looking to put the shorter A body output shaft and housing on the E body 904 so I can run it in my Dart. Reason is; it's all built. I've done this conversion on four speeds but not Torqueflights. I looked on Youtube for some documentation on this process, and found nothing.

Can anyone help me out on this process?

There is no need to swap because there is no difference in 904 lengths in car applications. The short one you have is likely from a truck.

I beg to differ

904s in '72 will have no difference in the tailshaft or housing.
Only possible exception is the presence or lack of the floorshift bellcrank pivot bracket bosses on the bottom of the housing. If you're not using a factory console and shifter it won't matter.

727 and 904 will be different, and some 727 truck applications will differ from each other.
The '65 and earlier transmissions shown above are obviously a different ballgame.

I will admit that I wasn't aware of the very early 904's having different lengths and the short tailshaft Torqueflite I had in a D-150 truck have may have been only available as a 727 version. But the later slip-yoke passenger car 904's that the OP asked about were all the same length, as was noted.
