First fire up was late Sunday afternoon after some trial and tribulation. I took it for a little 20 block blast tonight and the throttle response is incredible. I can't wait to go for a hwy cruise but I wanted a shakedown run tonight to make sure everything was honky dory. Squealing the tires around corners was easy stuff. I'm not going to beat it up just yet though.. :-D It about jerks my head off right off idle and I had to quickly learn to be very, very easy on the throttle when taking off from a stop.

The first few blasts are just touching the throttle and the 4k blast was just half throttle if that.

For those that haven't seen the build thread, I built this engine in a super stock format using the best of the best of all the years that this engine was in production plus some custom machining and a few "non-stock" parts. My goal was a sensible, long-lasting daily driver with added power but a somewhat stock cam.

I'm very anxious to see what this will do at higher rpms as well. Will it pull past 4k? Will power continue to build to redline? What will the mpg be? How well will it pull a 700-800 lb. trailer? What would I do differently next time? About the only thing I know for sure is that is pulls hard right off idle and would smoke my new chevy work van vortec v-6 off the line. It really slingshots from light to light with minimal throttle input.

Right on I've been following your build thread, glad to see it all together and running!

HELLYea!!! :cheers:Your thread on building this 4.? is a keeper Joe =P~
The time and tec work you showed many of us here will be used by many.
You have yourself a great driver and work horse I bet :-D
I woke up this morning and seen this thread and Treva enjoyed it with me She know's how exiting it is to fire up a new built engine
Braking them big new tires loose and sounds like a good amount of torque and I must say I like the sound =P~=P~, It sounds like a rock crawler working it's way up a back woods hill 8)
I am tickled to see and hear your 4.? fire up and sounding strong

What liter is it know Joe ?:-D

we love our Jeeps here in Arkansas :-D

Very cool. I am also a fellow Cherokee driver. You can re-build my 4.0 now! haha

LOL! :read2:

That's great news Ramcharger. Sounds like all of your hard work has paid off.

It's great feeling to finally get this done. :clock::cheers:

:toothy10: We will just call it a 4.J HO know :-D
Congratulations on getting this behind you :happy10: Job well dun

Sounds really good Joe.. have been following your thread on the build, and I'm glad all the work is meeting your expectations. Nice job.

Grant

Congrats Joe!! It's got a nice little rumble @ idle 8). Treat her gently for a few miles before MASHING the throttle....LOL

That's very cool!!! I've been following your build, and alotta time and effort went into that engine! I'm glad you finally got it going!! Sounds GOOD!!!

That's great Joe ! I had a 99 Cherokee w/4.0 inline & manual trans...loved it. Was sad when they dropped the inline for the V6. Chirp them tires. Wish you were closer, I'd hire ya.

Sounds "Ballsey" Joe, how about some pics of the whole Jeep so we can judge your work, which I'm sure will be more than acceptable.:toothy10:

NICE!!!! I'm jealous, hmm maybe a similar build for my 99 grand cherokee is in order when the dart sport is done?!?!?!?! Would be very easy with all of your tech. Thanks Again! Now I want to know what the numbers are on it!

I think I've said this before, but I'd love to se a trend with these motors being put into little A-body's instead of the slant sixes.
Kinda like how everyone is putting the new hemi's in the old cars.

I think these 4.0's have cool factor of their own, plus they can boil the tires like any v-8 can.

Yes they can, that's why I'm glad I used to work at a tire place, when one pair would get slick I'd throw on some more used tires for 10 g more miles

I copied your build into a Word document (120 pages with all pics, excluding comments, replies, etc..) for reference.

Hope you don't mind?

Thanks for sharing your expertise. You have a great sounding engine there.

Lol!

Sounds good Joe,

Have you driven it yet or still waiting on plates?

I went for a little blast around the 'hood. :-D I'm trying to get a renewal sticker but lately I've been leaving the house at 7:30 and not getting home until after 5 then I still have 2 hours of admin stuff to do. My job is killing me.

Awesome news Joe!!! Congrats!

Thanks Leanna!

So far so good Grant. No leaks, runs very cool even in the hot weather we've been having and has 40+ lbs of oil pressure at idle.

Congrats Joe!! It's got a nice little rumble @ idle 8). Treat her gently for a few miles before MASHING the throttle....LOL

I'm trying to be nice to it for the first hundred or so..... :toothy10: I haven't used more than 1/3 throttle yet. Too many rug rats running around the street.

Thank you very much mopardude. I've never built a automotive inline 6 w/fuel injection before so this was very new ground for me and like you say, a lot of thought, time and effort went into this build.

Gotta love those Jeeps! Nicely done.

Thanks bobscuda!

Now that I have a clue on these things, I might just do another one but stroke it out to 4.6 liters. I have another block laying around now. :)

lets go muddin

Yee Haaa!

Wow a lot of hard work went into that moment, good job!

Thanks tnplumber! This certainly was not a dingle ball hone and re-ring job.

we never had a doubt Joe. Everything looked top notch.

Thanks DD!

Like everything I own, the paint is rough. :-D not much if any rust though....

Build that sucker! I might run it on a rear wheel dyno later this year. Keep in mind that driveline losses are high on these and I live at 5280' above sea level too. :read2:

Also how much did this build cost ball park?

Good question, I'll have to think about that one. :clock:

I agree cudaspaz. I'd love to see one of these in a early A.

Pete, I take it as a compliment and that's why I posted the build. Copy away do with it what you will. :)

Sounds sweet!

Thanks ramenth! I'm hoping to find the time to get tags today....
