Odd state driving laws

-
Idaho has no safety inspections too. A buddy of mine lives in Idaho and his car has bald tires, rear brakes don't work and headlights are so dim that he can't see where he's going. He gripes because every time he drives in Utah at night he gets a ticket for his headlights. Hmmm smart guy.

Idaho used to have safety inspections until 81 or so. A Congressman's wife failed and the laws went away. Big government invading our lives you know. Now, hardly a day goes by when I don't see some granola munching patchouli stinker driving her clapped out 3 cylinder Volvo with one headlight, cracked windshield, windows that haven't been cleaned since Reagan was in office, bald mismatched tires, sparks shooting from the brakes, leaving an oil smoke cloud as it bounces down my street on worn out shocks. Typically with a child seat in the back wedged amongst her worldly possessions. At least the oil and dirt have obscured the Earth First sticker on the back bumper. (I hope my brother's girlfriend never reads this).

I was a licensed vehicle safety inspector in North Carolina in the early 90's. You would be amazed what people will try to drive! And don't even get me started on the useless cops who are too busy polishing their nightsticks to pull these clowns over.

Rant on:UGH! Reading some of the responses here makes me even more of an advocate for requiring a written AND a road test every 3 years...........................

.............As for Idaho adopting the flashing yellow turn arrow, ABOUT DAMN TIME!!! But if you feel safer sitting in the left turn only lane with nothing coming the other way for an entire light cycle be my guest (just don't be in front of me). Flashing yellow has always meant "proceed with caution" not yield.

Thank you so much for the look down your nose.

All I'm saying is, by using flashing yellow arrows they HAVE CHANGED the meaning of "flashing yellow" to mean "YIELD" WHICH IT DOES NOT and HAS NOT traditionally meant.

I'll guarantee you that this STUPID law will mean increased accidents at the affected intersections.

One intersection here in Winnipeg has a green U-turn light. You can't make a left turn at that intersection but you can make a U-turn when it's lit. I believe it is the only one in North America.

Here's a Texas law my sister (cop) told me about at Thanksgiving. Not weird, just good to know. If you're pulled over with a child in your car, and the officer detects any alcohol on you, it's an automatic felony. Even if you're under the legal limit.

Here in Florida if you get a speeding ticket, go to Blockbuster and rent a "drivers ed" video...go on-line and take a test. Pass the test and get a certificate...you print it. Take ticket and certificate to court house and get a big reduction of your fine and NO points on your record. One certifacate per year allowed.

They just passed that one in NY a few months ago.

so now they are arresting people for not breaking the law?
whats next? tickets for driving under the speed limit?
(I know minimum speed 45 MPH)

Ohio

- When passing through Youngstown, make sure you've got plenty of gas because it's illegal to run out of gas there.

Ohio
In Canton, Ohio, people wearing roller skates cannot share the streets with cars. And yes, this applies even during the “couples only” skate.

Ohio used to follow the UVC. In 2006 bicyclists lobbied for and won the right to obstruct traffic by going the speed limit. Left lane for passing only on Turnpike, regulation 5537-2-09.

All my work is either in Maryland or Virginia. A guy at work recently told me that it is illegal to pass on the right in Virginia, is this true, virginia members? The main roads I travel are dual highways, with 55 posted, but everyone usually cruises 65, and cops generally give you that extra 10. So if some clown decides to go 50 in the fast lane I can`t pass him? BS!!!

If your ever in Ohio do NOT pass on the right, my brother did the same thing and got a $65.00 ticket.

Don't know if these are still in effect, but it used to be illegal to drive without a shirt in Ala, but the law didn't address pants. Also, it was illegal to drive barefoot, but perfectly OK to drive in flip-flops. In the summer, I would keep a pair of flip-flops under my seat (I lived on a lake in the summers), but it would be suicide to drive a stick in flip-flops!

I used to wheel my 5-speed jeep in HARD stuff wearing flip flops. I hate wearing heavy shoes in the desert when it's warm out.
