I finnished my v8 swap in my 64 valiant wagon about a month ago and I'm Still having trouble with the transmission functions. The engine is a 360 magnum with eq heads and a ld340 intake with a 650 eddie carb.Transmission is a stock 904 pushbutton with a deep sump pan.I bought the kickdown linkage from a friend that crashed his 66 barracuda (273 2bbl)a few years back and hooked it up to the best of my knowlage.I did get the carb adapter for the kickdown to hook up too but I can't get this thing to kick down from third to second. If I adjust the upper rod to push more on the lever the carb won't open all the way.It will sometimes kickdown when I do that.If someone has a picture and maybe some advise that would be great.

Here are a couple of diagrams. Kickdown lever on trans must be pushed all the way back when carb is at full throttle. Lock trans lever all the way back or have a helper hold while you set & align rods. Since you most likely still have 2bbl linkage usually it is the first rod(attached to carb) that needs to be adjusted or modified (usually lengthened) to compensate for changed geometry due to swap to 4bbl. Could never get mine quite right on my 65 cuda & just went with lokar cable setup.

So I think I have figured out that the kickdown rod is suposed to move with the throttle during the full movement of the carb.I have an adapter for the eddlbrock that only moves the rod twards the second half of movement. If thats the case I guess I'm going to be doing some welding.
Thanks for the pics

The bell crank on the transmission is different between a 2 barrel and 4 barrel. You'll need the correct linkage or you'll be banging you head against the wall for ever. Just me... I've been through that!

Hey hellrats could you give me an idea on where to find the right one or maybe a picture with mesurements so I can try to make one?I didn't know there was a difference.
Thanks for all the help guys:wink:

So the lokar setup is compatable with the older style throttle setups? Is this the only solution?I am just having a hard time beliving that the factory stuff won't work.I was trying to do a stock looking engine bay but it sounds like thats impossable.I will be looking into the lokar stuff tomorrow.
Thanks again

You have a 360 magnum engine, LD340 intake, and a 650 Edelbrock 4bbl carb and you think a stock 273 2bbl kickdown is going to work with that? You're living up to your user name! :) Even if you found the factory 4bbl setup, you'd have to modify it to work with that combo. Get the cable setup and make life easier.

I ended up getting the kick down kit from Bouchillon Performance.I had to put a dent in the floor for the cable but that was the only modification I had to do the the car.

I'm curious to hear how it works out. I've been thinking lokar, but am going to take oe last stab at the pretty much stock, four barrel kick down.
Keep us posted

I ended up buying everything from Bouchillon to make sure it was going to work.I am pleased to say that it is and the kit didn't take very long to hook up(about 2 hours).I had to call them because there web site isn't working and talked to Bill or Bob.The only thing I didn't like about this kit was the instructions and the fact that the pictures wern't very good but other than that it's great. If you get everything from them it's just under two hundrend bucks but worth it if you have the same problem I was.
