Now that you guys mention it...i don't think I've ever seen the tail lights of a nova
:poke:

I hear that but many a chevy owner have seen mine..

Yenkos are great cars but it would be a bit more fair to compare them to the GSS cars built by Mr Norm rather than factory 340s cars

i dont care who you are,if you dont like these theres something wrong with you

The drag car he actually owned before he has his first son. Sold it when he was 23 then tracked it down a few years ago and bought it back.

Agreed, they were just cars. Nothing special.

I had the chance in 1974ish to buy a 70 hemi cuda 4 speed car when I was 12 or 13 for $1800... about 2 years of paper route money. Yeah that was the worst deal my parents ever killed. I probably would have been dead by 17, but oh well... :)
Yeah I have a similar story. In 1981 I was hot to buy my first new car. I was looking at buying a 1982 Plymouth TC3 Miser with a 1.7 liter Volkswagen engine in it and a 4 speed manual. I think the sticker price was $7600.00. I was selling my '74 Dart Sport to my sister and brother-in-law for $500.00 for the down payment. My roommate at the time was like "Look, you don't I want a car like that" He suggested that we go look at another car he knew with for sale. Reluctantly I went and looked at the car. We pulled into the driveway and there it was, a 1970 AAR 'Cuda 340 6 Pack, 4 speed in B5 blue. He wanted $1500.00 AND I TURNED IT DOWN!!!!!!! Yeah I bought the TC3 Horizon and I am kicking my self for it to this day.

Same here, looking for my first car in 74 a friend showed me a 69 Boss 429 mustang. Flat back tire, a little rust starting, I thought who’d want that. Went on to by my 70 340 4sp Duster so it wasn’t a complete waste.

Yeah but at least you got something cool. I got a 4 cylinder econo car. I traded that in on a Plymouth Turismo 2.2 the following year (Plymouth's version of the Charger 2.2). It was way cooler but not as cool as a 340 Duster.

Ok, back up a year and all bets are off. Then, the LT1 was offered right off the showroom, plus the 350 HP AND the 375 HP 396/402.

That would give a factory big block Duster a run for it's money. Oh wait. They never made one.

hell no one cared about b-bodies or e-bodies either. had priends picking up running driving 70 challenger rag tops for 1300 bucks in the early 90's...

I remember in the mid 80's, seeing a clean '69 GTX sitting out in front of a house for months. Finally knocked on the door to see if the car could be for sale. The lady said it had a blown engine and she would sell it for $500. I remember she said her kids called her GTX "The Tank". I didn't buy it because it didn't seem like that good of a deal at the time...

I like most american muscle cars.
I just prefer mopars.
I don't think one brand is better or worse . It's subject to taste.
I even like mid 70's cars I used to hate .
Maybe it's the nostalgia?

I had a 68 340 in a 65 w/3.55 gears. I would regularly beat a stock looking 340 Duster that lived on my way to school and also beat my friends big block chevy. Was it the 396 that had that weird intake that the carb sat screwy at about a 45? I still talk to that guy to this day.

I passed up a $1500 T/A Challenger, 6 pack and all back in 86.

Hey Divenut, liked your story. It reminded me of the time I was heading home after being out on Whittier Blvd one weekend night in my '69 340 Swinger (same car as mentioned above) when a 396 Chevelle pulled up alongside while I was stopped at a red light. We both knew what was coming next since there wasn't any traffic around.
The light turned green and I never saw his front fender alongside me until he caught me at the next light. He rolled his passenger window down and asked, "What have you got in there?"
I just said, "A small block", and enjoyed the look on his face as the light turned green and I drove off. "stop light to stop light grand prix". Great times back then.
That reminds me of a time, a very similar incident took place between myself in my ‘73 360 4spd Cuda where a ‘71 455 Olds Cutlass convertible, loaded with double dates, started talking junk. I was really into jusit going home but there mouth.... OK!
Only happy to show off and hand out a good pasting, light to light, over and over again, I creamed this guy.

Where I didn’t kill’em was the big end on the long stretches. He did ask why I’d get off of the throttle. I told him it is only a 1/4 mile car. 6800 rpm, that’s it. Game over after that.

That's a style of Torker. They were very combo specific intakes. Probably why you beat him.

Verily, this thread it has been fouled by the devil's most sickening of temptations! If thou art going to drinketh from the sinful bile of Chevrolet , let it be at least a super cool chebby, like a BB Vette, or Z-28 Camode!

In this issue above is a very complete story about the market entrance of the Duster; and there is clearly stated, that the Duster was a planned answer to the success of the Nova. There are even comparison pictures of Nova and Duster at the Chrysler plant.

I work with a guy that grew up in NY and owned a Baldwin Motion 68 Camaro. To him it was just an old hotrod he owned long ago.
I asked him if he knew what it was worth today..... He guessed 50k....lol.
He about shat himself when I pulled some auction reports!

I owned a 67 firebird 400 4spd a 69 340 Dart swinger 4sp. 69 350 4spd ss Nova. all at the same time in the early 70's. They are ranked in the order they were enjoyed. The firebird was the best handling. Over powered Go-cart. The Dart was by far the quickest. The Nova just did not run as good as expected unless you left the clutch fly and slam gears. The factory exhaust on the Dart was by far the coolest sounding.
