NHRA is in town this weekend and I can't decide if I want to go or not. Two tickets plus snacks, souvenirs, and assorted crap I buy is sure to equal well over $200.00. Anybody been to one of these things? Is it worth it?

Depends on how much you like Drag Racing. No Pro/Stock cars or Bikes, but better are the Pro Mods anyway. Been going to National Events for 40 years. Still worth it to me.

I like going when the local boys run. Less money and more love.

If you have never been then absolutely. My first time going was mind blowing but that’s kind of worn off for me. I just got back from a radial race and I would rather pay $20 to watch cars run in the high threes in the 1/8 with no wheelie bar on radials. Plus I can everything from blown hemis to turbo big block mopars making 3000 hp or small block ford making 1500 hp.

If you haven't seen top fuel, I'd say it's worth it. Bring ear protection! It's still loud even with earplugs or earmuffs, and you can feel the vibrations in your chest. Pretty amazing stuff.

I went in Tulsa when I was visiting a buddy as I have nothing like that in Oregon. Was way worth it pretty loud you can feel the cars

I haven’t been to a big race since the late 70s. Last 1 I seen was the Coke a Cola funny car nationals. I would like to see the big guys run, but there is only a couple of guys I like. Kim

If you never felt a nitro dragster fire up then yeah.

I have the good luck to have a few in the shops near me and when they crack off its unreal.

Feeling the eye burn and the thump in your chest is awesome. Then when they wack the skinny pedal, well I cant explain it.

Its something else.

The first time I went to Minnesota Dragway's it was awesome. We could stand right behind the starting line and when a Top Fueler did it's burn outs, you could feel the heat from the dragster and my white tee shirt was covered in black rubber dots. And of course I had to quickly jam fingers into my ears. So yeah definitely bring ear plugs. The fingers thing didn't work very well!

If you've never seen a top fuel car run, it should be MANDATORY that you go!!! Seeing them on tv can't even begin to prepare you for what they're like in real life. Seeing them live for the first time can't even be put in to words. When the light goes green, they suck the air out of your lungs, and scare the living **** out of you!!! Everyone has to see them at least once!

I agree that you should go, you will enjoy it.
Don't take your wife if she's not into it at all.
She will hate it because the cars are loud, the fuel stinks, and the smoke from the burn outs stinks even more.
If that doesn't get her, than the repetitive runs will.
Do yourself a favor, and get a pit pass so you can watch the between rounds thrashing that goes on as well as looking at all of the cars in general.
To me, that's half of it, and watching the actual racing from the stands is the other half.
Personally, i get more from watching the stock and super stock cars than any of the others.
The fuel classes are impressive because of the sheer power and violent sounds.
Be prepared to have your teeth rattle and chest vibrate when they go by while making their runs!
You will not regret it if you go!
To answer your question, it is well worth it to go..............

Last time I went a few years ago there was no need for a pit pass. Everyone was welcome to walk around.

They are cool events. But I prefer stuff with steel bodied cars I can better relate to like the Nostalgia Drags and F.A.S.T. events.

Be sure to watch at least a couple of fuel car passes from the “creature bleachers” (at finish line) if the track has them. That’s an experience in itself. Sounds/feels like a cannon going off when the chutes come out at 330mph.

In a word, Yes!
I tell kind of non car people (very mildly interested) to go to one at least once in there life. Just once. And if your going with the idea that I’m only gonna do this once, spend some money without care. Buy a hat, get a few hot dogs, get a key chain, purchase a pit pass (is that all inclusive these days?)
Take a walk around manufacturers row, watch the big boys take down and reassemble the engine & car. Grab a seat at the line, then midway & once again at the finish line.

Top fuel/funny cars racing? You might want to bring/purchase ear protection. The over the head units I like best.

Top Fuel and Funny Car.
Stand by the fence.
A couple hundred feet down the track.
You will feel them going by.
Oh yeah....
Wear ear plugs.
