The owner has advertised this car a number of times in the last year but for too much - he was asking $2700!

I think he’s ready to sell it. I see it as a $500 parts car but I’m thinking that my value is out of date. For the last four years it has sat outside and hasn’t been run. Everything looks straight but is weathered. Interior appears nice but is sun faded, looks good in the pic but the dash pad has cracks & there is paint fading on the metal dash frame. I know I should avoid it but I like cars that are mostly original. And the odometer says less than 70,000 miles & it could be accurate.

What would you offer?

I would think 800 because it does not look like Michigan cars. At that price even if it cost a few hundred to make it a good driver you are not over your head.

hows the rails, floors and quarters? Does it run? Drive? 2700 asking isnt insanely high. if the car is fairly solid and running/driving, I can see it being worth that. From what I'm seeing, its not rusty, look at my build for rusty lol.

That said, it is an early A so values are weird. But i can't imagine it being worth less than 1000-1500.

Hell, I will go next, 6 cylinder more door, all the chrome looks to be there. The interior OK, car looks to be straight no major dents, missing gas cap? What we don't see is the under side, floor boards, frame, inside of trunk. Has not ran for at least four years, may have to put in a battery and some gas in the carb and see if it at fires up. If it ran and had a current tag...maybe what he asking for. But without pictures of it all and not knowing it runs, 800 to a 1000, if there is NO major rust issues and if runs and drives, 1000 to 1600 and that's high in my book. Me I would offer 600 dollars let pass at 1000.

First, 66 Valiant V200 is not too common.
Second the car seems complete and all parts seems to be there. If you like restoring it back to stock might be a great idea. Hot rod it will be a change of lots of parts and then it's too complete.
Third, I would say the value is what you are willing to pay and what the seller might let it go for.

1966 is a 1 year deal, that looks like a decent more door. ( cant see floor & frame ) if it were me I would make a nice cruiser out of it. if parted out, it could help a lot of guys out with parts. in the end its only worth what you or anyone else is willing to pay.

Im easy, I would go $800, any more and it’s not worth getting into. At 8, you can still part it out and make your money back, or have at least some headroom should you need to spend $$ to fix it up. Runnin, drivin, and lookin good it’s probably at most a $4500 car. That’s all I got!

Cool fixer upper. Stock repaint and some baby moons with beauty rings. Or leave the "patina" after giving it a wash. Heck everybody loves the beat to **** look nowadays. Tune up the six and cruise it. Do a lowball at $500. I wouldent part it, i would do a little fixin, drive it a bit with for sale signs in it, and flip it.

Roll up with a flat bed and 5 $100 bills. Money talks. Car is rough he can unload it for what he's asking. Usually a spouse seeing a trailer and money will push em to get rid of it.

Had a dude with a 69 charger from virginia over in N.J. where i used to live. This was back in 1988. Car had a transplanted 440 big block with a crack in it from him leaving water in it over the winter. Was originally a 318 car. All summer long he wanted $1,800 for it. I pulled up with my buddy and his tow truck. Offered him $800 he took it. Spouse told him get rid of it.

The rust and engine condition questions need to be answered before a real value can be determined. If there is no rot in the floors, trunk, quarters, or fenders, and I could get it to fire up, I'd say it's worth a grand. I'd come in at $800 and be ready to add to that a bit if needed. And I agree with several other opinions, nothing says I'm ready to deal, right here right now, like showing up with a truck and trailer. Good luck, and let us know how it goes!

I'd stick to a 500 dollar limit on a car like this.No matter what you think of it's potential it is going to cost way more than you really want to spend to bring it back to life.

I see boxes of brake parts, and mimor engine parts and gaskets from rockauto coming to the rescue.

Theres a wheel less 72 dart 2 door in brown metallic w a black top sitting on jack stands under a carport about an hour from where i live. I am tempted to stop and enquire. I have no space for such an aquisition. Was concidering haggling w owner on a price, and buying for a daily driver. And no i am not divulging its whereabouts lol.

Too me, it looks like a 750 buck car if it's not all rusted away underneath. It's cool that it's a 66 because you don't see many, but it may also be harder to get parts that are specific to that year.
I paid 800 bucks for my 67 Valiant, and jumped in and drove it home. But I looked for a car like it for four years before I found it. Patience pays off sometimes.

Thanks for the input.
I figured I was a bit out of step with the value but not by much.

It is not currently running and the pics don’t show the rust that’s there. The floors & torsion bar mounts are solid but front drivers side frame kick-up is missing the lower portion due to rust, both fenders have rust holes along with lower edge of quarter panels.

AND I don’t think it would be a good parts car not just because it’s a four door slant six. I don’t expect the individual pieces to have much value as there is not one little piece that looks really good - everything has “patina” or worse. So if I had to part it out items like the nice straight bumpers have poor chrome.

I really like it because it’s so original - but the bad news is that everything is over 50 years old on it.

$500.00 is the max I'd go, and only if I really had a need for it or the parts on it. Years ago I bought a one owner 70 more door Dart with 50k documented miles for $400.00. I used it as a daily driver for a year until the brakes went, then parted it out, sold the /6 and trans for $250.00, and traded the front clip for some bodywork. The '75 I picked up in January was an $800.00 investment, and as soon as I asked if he was ready to sell, the wife said "get rid of it".

Definitely no harm in putting together a little “presentation” if you will. Get a few facts to lay down, and the cost to do it correctly. Bring what YOU are willing to spend, but don’t start there. Maybe bring 8 and start at 5. I have a friend that got an 83 Toyota hi-lux camper for 777$ down from 2700$. It’s hard to argue with logic and rationale, and of course, cash

I pay $650 for 4 door parts cars (up from $500 15 years ago).

If there are "desirable" parts I know I can sell fast or that I need, then I will up my offer if refused, otherwise it's $650 take or leave.

In that past 7 years, the most I've paid is $1200 and that was for a 72 Charger with bucket seats, "clock"/150 rally cluster, hidden headlights, and a 3.23 sure grip 8 3/4.

Last month I offered $200 for a 71 Satellite. No sale but I added up about $400 in sales other than long term and miscellaneous "smalls", plus the labor to strip, storage space and dealing with the carcass. The asking was actually only $400.

It’s a 66 4 door valiant. Not very desirable to begin with. Add the rust and worn out int and it’s even less desirable. 500 car there.

As far as parts go. Patina is fine as long as it’s not rotted. .
