Give me some ideas??? I have found another 1968 barracuda w a 360 in it. Motor supposedly was replaced by insurance Co after a fire in mid to late 90's. I haven't had time to check everything out yet. It does run.... But is a dog .. running really rough right now ... Get this It has the original 273 4 barrel manifold on the 360. That can't be working good . I need some advice on an aftermarket intake only going to be driven around town but needs to run good

Need to figure out what it is. Could be a magnum drilled for LA intake. A good dual plane intake, such as an eddy RPM, should fit the bill

Casting number above starter 400683-360-3
The other side of the block will have the date manufactured. 4006830 would be a LA block I'm almost certain, probably from the mid to late 70's

What improvement should I expect after swapping out intakes. That 273-4 intake that is on it certainly can't be a good thing on a 360. There is absolutely no bottom end performance to this thing the way it is

The 273-4 intake would be all bottom end! I bet its not sealing and you have a massive intake leak if they used 360 gaskets. It would seal with 273/318 gaskets if they were not metal shims. Sell the 273-4 for $150 and buy yourself a crosswind or a Performer 318/360 and gasket match the ports. Even the iron 360 intakes were not bad.

Good deal. I guess it was on your mind a little.

Check plugs. Install new ones if need be.
Set timing Initial at 15* and see where it goes when you rev it up to 3M.
Vacuum hose disconnected of course.
What carb is on top now?

Edelbrock Performer 750. I do suspect timing too. I won't know til I get a timing tab I can read. Vac leak is possible too. Vac guage is really low.

A performance cam will ya e low vacuum and any minor leak will put the vacuum reading at the bottom of the fish tank. Timing, if poor for the combo will bury the reading.

The timing cover has the timing marks embossed on it. To make reading it easier, (scrape off the old paint) re paint the cover area and balancer and use white out to high lite the markings.

Works like a champ!

This mid 70s 360 has the marks on the driver's side which puts it behind the water pump and steering pump. I just bought a bolt on tab for the passenger side. I will need to make a new mark on the damper.

After that I think a good aftermarket intake make sure it's sealed well. Maybe that will get me somewhere

I am not trying to be a smartass, but read through this.

Figure out what you have, just like the fellas said, then you can figure out what you need to do to get it running right. Don't even think about upgrades until then.

I think one major problem is the 273 intake on the 360 so that is one of the first things I need to do

As mentioned above, get it running right before you throw money at it. Know where you stand first.
