Gently try the longer bolt, don't crank it in. You may have to get a 2" bolt? As for the bracket ... your lucky you still have one. Mine has been gone a long time. Always better to try an get it to go on if you can.

I tried the bolt without the washer, and some gasket seal on it. I'll see if it works tomorrow, after that I was frustrated and didn't want to break anything.

So close yet so far away .

Well if you want a bracket and I can't get it to fit lmk and I'll send it your way, it's the least I could do with all the advice you have given and helped contribute to the journey this far.

I'll have to find other stuff to send everyone else once they come knocking for parts
 
Also, how important is this? It totally doesn't fit between the transmission and headers to the engine. If super important I'll mess with it tomorrow .

there are more sets of those taking up shelf space in mopar garages than any other item :lol:
i put them on when they fit (almost never with headers), and loose no sleep when i leave them off. they make great handles when you're sliding around under the car.
however, if you want to get all your mopar merit badges, you will need to be able to figure out how they go back on. believe me, plenty of people have thrown those across the garage in frustration :mad:
looks like your almost ready to be signed off for your water pump badge :thumbsup:
make sure you get a few drives in before you do the cam change. you want to make your wife think it's "fixed" for awhile :rofl:

We started watching a restorations show in Netflix I think it's called Rust Bros Restorations. The guy made a comment about old cars always missing parts and needing little things and she turns to me and says "wow that sounds awefully familiar."

Yes the cams are going to be a while, just got them because I'd rather spend 75 now than 400 later it'll make me limit what I want to do later on as well, kind of a well I have these let's run them instead of buying bigger and more expensive.

I just hope I don't have more leaks tomorrow and that she fires right up! I really don't want to pull the water pump back off, that thing is a pain in the butt to get to!

As for that piece, I imagine I will just throw the bolts in the empty holes and call it a day.

I didn't know what to do with my stock manifolds, holey'camole I just saw some listed for 550!
 
If they're original 340 manifolds they are in demand for people doing restorations. A lot of them ended up in junk piles back in the day when the owners swapped in headers. Put them on a shelf in case you decide to do a restoration some day, or sell them here and use the money for your project. Everyone wins.
 
It looks like you'll be back on the road in no time. As your finding out, these things usually take much longer than planned.

Maybe we're counting my chickens before they hatch? Longer bolt definitely fits, but I'm for sure leaking any water/antifreeze that I put in the car from right here.

I'm wondering if maybe because I got the non ac wp, or because I have the newer front housing plate with harmonic balancer, or maybe my gasket got twisted when installing it. There is a little lip between the wp and the face of the engine where it sits. Sucks because I put the gasket on and gasket seal on the wp, maybe I didn't put enough gasket seal on it I don't know .I'm yanking it all off right now.

Possible problem? Looks like the gasket got folded off the housing and into the wp area. I know there is another wp at the AutoZone right down the road for my car.

For sure you want another gasket. Whatever pump that came with your engine is what I would put back on.( I don't recall what you had and what you bought-- ma mopar engineers are way smarter than I)

I remember reading the difference between the AC and non AC wp was only the # of propeller blades and many people on the forum have ran either or on their cars.
 
Go with the one you have then. ( it's been a long time since I've changed pumps -( I'll be asking you for advice in the future) Maybe just check the mounting surfaces between the new and old one ??
 
Correct. The housing/casting is identical.

Best to glue gaskets onto one part using "Gaskacinch" or similar. Only use RTV if there is no other way to seal parts, as on corners of intake manifold for example, or on those bolts that tend to seep.

Alright sounds good. I'll look for this gasket seal, I originally put black rtv on it. I'm going to get a new wp and gasket now.
 
Do not use bolts that are too long here. Your timing gears are right behind here. On earlier timing covers the holes may be threaded all the way through in these 2 places.

I usually use permatex Indian head gasket shellac on these thick paper gaskets. I hate RTV for these areas. I feel the Indian head seals better.

The guide says a 1-1.5in bolt, but I feel like it's barely catching any threads, maybe 1/2in with the smaller bolt. Maybe it will be better with the gasket not bent/twisted in .
 
They didn't have Indian Head gasket shelac so I got these plus the red, blue and grey ones I have at home I should be good on gasket maker for the rest of my adult life

Nope, this stuff is not good to use on gaskets. They just squirm around when you install them. The gasket should at least be glued to one part so it cannot move, or squish out. The RTV/silicone stuff makes a great lubricant when it is uncured!

Ok I'll look for a shelac at another store. That's kind of what was happening the first time I put the wp on, the gasket was moving. Same with the exhaust manifold gaskets, they like to squirm around.
