ProComp/Speedmaster aluminum heads

Likely not I suppose, I think the difference is in QC. Inspection and rejection of the inevitable bad parts when buying from China. I would think/hope Edelbrock does a better job than SM.

I've been looking at the trickflows, and $2400 loaded and ready to go is a good deal vs the normal price of $1800 for the loaded SM heads.

That's what I was looking for, didn't go enough pages down, page isn't great on phones, and no real way to filter. Thanks.
As I understand it the metal is drop forged in China and that's it? I mean that's the pollution part of the deal that we can't do cheaply here? Now the Machining and the assembly I do believe is done here? As in they have the heads and they're going to assemble it for me and send them out I believe?
I think if you scroll around there selling the CNC'ED loaded heads for $1274..
I'm certainly not trying to compare these to trick flow or anything like that, but "the price!"

I was wondering if you would give your impression of their bare heads as opposed to what like I have a set of 596 heads?
I'm trying to reply to myself here LOL but also asking another question as the only picture I have in my mind is these look like Magnum heads with the capability to put shaft rockers on top of them? Although I don't have any bare Magnum heads to compare that either LOL...

Magnum heads they sell bare have a 179cc runner. Yours has 170cc runner

In that case it looks like time will tell. I know some of their information does a little wonky...
Look at the size of the valves that's not correct...

I have a set but have yet to run them (hopefully here soon, I want the damn car out of my garage and on the road where it belongs). I bought them bare and sent them to Mike and MRL to build because at the time he had the greatest knowledge about them. I know he posted some builds he had with them and at one time sold them here. When I spoke to him he said he bought them bare and the guides were not good quality so he replaced them on every set he built. He never mentioned the seats. He also said the ports needed some help (what head doesn't as cast so I can't speak for the CNC ones) and worked mine over. My Comp Magnum (not Pro Magnum) rockers didn't line up well. I got a kit from B3 but they raised them too high and back I had push rod hole clearance issues (so you may want to open those up). Hughes rockers fit spot on, but that was with the valve heights on my heads. Head bolts for Edelbrocks work with them. Alternator fitment is tight (as is with Edelbrock). I believe the exhaust and intake threads were heli-coiled, might verify that with Speedmaster that they are. My Doug's headers and Stealth intake bolted up with little fuss.

It's a tuff call, this stuff ain't get'n cheaper. I hope someone with more experience than I chimes in. I'd like to know more as well.
Looks like we're fixing to find out..

I ordered a set and gave them my credit card number...

Bare?

Sorry I'm way to lazy to read the whole thread....

I was hoping to get my car back on the road this summer and see how they do.....damn job, kids, family, life, all got in the way.....again!!

Assembled...

I’m sure SM would be able to tell you the scoop, but “I think” the CNC porting is done over here on those heads.
Well you may have seen I pulled the trigger yesterday on a set of unported assembled SM heads.
I did talk to Stan the guy that generally answers the phone or has every time I've called. He said very doubtfully that they would take them back and have them CNC'ed. I reckon tons of people do porting and I can have that done later. Of course I'm still holding on to my what I believe realistic expectations of a lighter head a possible ability to run lower octane and hoping for some more performance but not expecting it..
With that said I know you have shared with us that you haven't seen any major issues but did change the umbrellas? And a couple Springs were a little soft? Is it possible for me to just take these off and have them checked? Maybe when I get them I will post some pictures of the Umbrellas and see if these were the ones that you were talking about? And I do appreciate your help and your experience...

just take them to a local machine shop that knows what they are doing and have them checked to make sure everything is ok.

yes I was going to take the Springs down to a local machine shop and maybe have them tested for a compression?

The springs compression?
I think you mean, the springs rate?

The 596 heads are in perfect working order as they are. If anything ever were to go wrong with these aluminum heads I could just pop those back on. Of course if it doesn't take out my bottom end LOL...

I'm not Ultra proud of the Crower Springs they are just basically what I have and have given me no troubles. Like I was saying I don't see any reason why at this lift I would have any trouble with what they came with?

596 isn't that a tractor head. lol I'd swap the springs as the Crower are a known quantity, the others aren't even after checked.
probably make a good spring for the tractor head. lol

No it's my stroker head... LOL..
I'll probably run them semi out of the box. I'm not going to cannibalize my good heads.
If and when I can afford to and want to take the heads to the next level I'll likely upgrade the springs valvejob and the port job along with my cam...

596 heads...spring height 1.687 inches?
SM heads ...spring height 1.80 inches...

you are going to need .125 stack of shims at least..

Just because a spring is good for .600 lift doesn’t mean it will work with ur .525 lift cam. U need to have springs matched to ur cam with the proper spring rate. Kim
