Does anyone sell "crate" motors that are not "408"s?

Seems like there would be a market for high quality rebuilt 360s or 340s. Not everyone wants, or can even use, the HP & torque of a 408.

Small cam, excellent for street driving. No torque converter change needed. It’ll still get decent mileage.
This is nice as well. Several levels to choose from. Cam is a Magnum OE grind. Ripe for a cam swap.... if your so inclined to do so.

Oh! Almost forgot, 340 blocks are hard to come by and fewer are good enough to do a crate engine program with. There also expensive!

Those are good suggestions. Any more?

I have talked to these guys in the past, know one member from the E body forum that bought from them. They use magnum short blocks, so hydraulic roller cams, plus the choice EQ, or Edelbrock heads with different levels of porting.

SHOP

Classic industry’s sells a 340 with 6 pack set up and a couple levels or 360s. This is kinda cool SHOP

quick search and yes looks like everything is based off the magnum I have a good running LA long block that I was going to give away but may change my mind switching to the magnum so I used a lot of parts off the LA

The power is controlled by your right foot.
Blueprint engines sells a great package pump gas 408 with a good warranty, so why would someone pay the same price for a lower horsepower and torque engine unless it's your matching numbers engine for your car and you don't want to mess with originality.
I understand saving a few bucks, but you're not dealing with a 13:1 engine that makes it's power at 7000 r.p.m. either........
The ATK engines from Jeg's are a pretty good bang for the buck, and they would be pretty mild too if that's what you're really after.

Places like Carolina Machine Engines,Indy Cylinder Heads etc.will build you what you want and still be considered a crate.Want a LA 360 ? I'm sure they can. Indy has new owners so the buying experience may be better now.At one time Indy had a stock pile of 340 blocks.

A friend priced a long block from ATK through Autozone, but when I called ATK directly it was about $400 less and delivered right to the house.
Just an FYI.

again most are the better magnum just need to be sure all the balance is correct

I would be very leary of CME, from many recent reviews they have gone down hill, you'd be better off finding a core and having a local shop do a rebuild for you if you had to choose between the two routes.

I'd rather build one
I can build a long block for under 3k.

Most of the crate engines all have heads with a valve job left un checked, edges and flow loss. Factory did a better job in regard to valve jobs. Be better if they just left the heads/intake off and supplied the gaskets so you could just go through'em.

At BluePrint, we manufacture our own aluminum GM and ford heads, and for Mopars, we buy the raw casting from edelbrock, and machine/assemble in nebraska ourselves. I know we're not on your list...but i want to point out that generalization does not apply to us.

Wasn't thinking of you.
You advertise the power, right?
You do manufacture stock spec crate motors as well as performance crate motors, right?

Whats the hp on your stock spec crate motor out of curiosity?

Yes we do dyno every engine, and advertise horsepower on each one.

We actually don't do any stock stroke Chrysler's. As pointed out above, we would have the same money in purchasing an OE crank as we would a stroker, so not much point to it. We are pretty much performance only at this point, beyond a few low end Ford's.

One of the companies mentioned above is actually owned by an auto recycler, which I see is remanning some stock cranks, regrinding cams, etc. We don't use much seasoned content at all. I didn't mean anything by my post. I just figured we weren't on your list since we don't have 360s.

Here is our "smallest" 408

What do your eddys flow after your facility machines them, better or worse than edelbrock? That could be a selling point for you.

I make power @7000 with 10 .1
If that's the case... find the cheapest one if you're going to tear into it and put in all your own stuff. Bowtie crowd does it all the time with those cheap pos goodwench motors.lol
