I have reviewed a few products. I find it useful when others do the same, saves me time and money.

What do you all think?

Website Questions and Suggestions forum is a good place to start.

Glad we spoke about this. Search is good but if all the info was already in one quick grab place then it will slow down the repeats in same questions. Plus we can push what products work and what ones stink! Stop spending good money after bad parts. We can also help push local builders.

Be nice if it were structured. Like sub sections for Suspension, brakes, cooling, interior, etc. Not one big hodge podge of reviews to sift through. Also is it gong to be multiple reviews for the same part? Will the review be open to comments?

Plus with Fabo member that are manufacturers / fabricators of parts for our cars, reviews and comments help to make something better, and improved. I mean, I am an A body parts fabricator. Reviews would help me.

Good question, would it turn into a debate for the worse or for the better .
Would it shine light on someone's poor installation .. or misuse... or lack forethought ...or would it simply KILL every new product that has a bad review here

Fixed it for ya

Parts manufacturer/ fabricator. I made needed things for my 2 cars, then offered more of the same parts on here in the sale forums. Never had an unhappy customer yet. That's not to say there isnt room for improvement, or even a product use review to help other potential buyers make a decision.

I have a few more things in the pipeline for my cars, I plan to offer duplicates of these parts on the sale forums. Theres lots of talented people on Fabo making stuff. I have bought quality made parts off other members as well.

Yep I can see it going many directions. I've seen other sites with reviews and yes it can get messy or be very helpful. The upside if it could stay constructive is someone could point out installer error or possibly the parts received were incorrect or bad, which happens. I guess we'd need to separate "review" from "complaint" or "install issues" etc. For example I just installed the Dr Diff 11.625 rear disk brakes. Great system but install info was lacking and I like to share what I discovered in the process of install for others to know.

It would need to be limited like a poll. "Is your review of this product positive or negative?" "Would you buy this product again or recommend it?"

That way, there's no room for personal opinions or bullshit like "it's a total POS, don't ever buy it". That's not what we need here.

I agree. Simplistic answers and. Use the poll or stars like other sellers use to keep it simple. If you respond, you should make it so the person who responded is traceable - this way if say RRR puts down 1 star - I can pm him with a private conversation of why he gave one star if I am looking for info on that product. No need for all the dialog on a public Chanel. We all know how people can be with an open forum. Lol!

I think it would have to be done like the "how-to" section.

In other words, it would need to have a moderator review all the submissions. If it was fully open to comments and other reviews it would turn into a mess. We already see it on the forums, one person says a part is a POS, someone else says it works great, the failure was improper installation or use vs a POS part.

I think it would be a great thing to have, but it would require a lot of moderator time to make it truly useful.

Seems like the rear disk install would be more of a "how to" deal than a review deal. I've installed the 11.7's, there aren't step by step instructions (which would be nice!!!) with them but it wasn't that bad of an install.

God forbid THAT. I've done several how tos lately and not one has been posted in that section yet.

Right, because the How-to section is based on moderator approval, which is a time consuming thing to do if you actually have someone go through everything that's submitted, check it for accuracy, safety, etc, etc.

An open review forum would turn into a monkey poo throwing contest just like the open forum does with people venting their own bias toward certain companies without an accurate review. To make it useful the BS would have to be weeded out. Otherwise it would be no better than the current open forum discussions on parts. "this stuff is a POS" "yeah but you did it wrong" " no it's junk" "never had an issue with it" "worked great for 20 years (and less than 100 miles in that time)", blah blah blah...

That's another good idea!

Example of the type of product review
I was advocating for:
Product Review: 67 to 74 A/B/E-Body End Link Set

It just depends on what you want. Not that there’s anything wrong with that write up, but, just what it looks like out of the package isn’t the whole story. If the bushings are cracked or the end link snaps after a 100 miles then what?

Same with a star rating and a short review. How many rant threads have we seen on eBay users with a good rating? Same basic system. Or Amazon? 5 stars is no guarantee. Sure, it would be a smaller group so some of the issues that come up at Amazon or eBay wouldn’t be as much of an issue, but it’ll still come down to how it’s moderated.

I’m not opposed, I’d love to see a useful review section. But making it more useful than what we get out of the open forum will require a lot of time and moderator oversight if the open forum is any indication of what to expect. That’s all I’m saying.

If the bushings had been cracked out of the box I would have noted that. If the link snaps in 100 miles I will update the review.

I recently reviewed the A100 fuel pickup for use in A bodies. While it looks promising it ended up being linear and no better than the other aftermarket pickups.

Product Review: A100 Fuel Sender For 67 Dart

No review is perfect but anything is better than nothing.

Really? I just installed one and it works great. Was it great out of the box? NO, but it was a good starting point and of the correct design as originals. I calibrated it on the bench to the factory Ω specs . It also required tweaking the pickup tube in a couple places and also the float arm.
I put it in the car and monitored the gauge as gas was added. Its perfect, when on E there is still 2 gallons in it. 8 gallons was showing half tank. It did hit full slightly early but that is due to the slightly shorter float arm. If you wanted to get nit-picky you could extend that.
Its not linear, the winding is just like the original.

Yeah I would like to see a section for product reviews for sure.

I actually disagree. An inaccurate review is worse than not having one. An inaccurate positive review might lead to to buy something that won’t work or work well. And an inaccurate negative review might lead you to avoid a perfectly decent product.

The shorter the review format, the less helpful the review is and the more likely it is to be inaccurate. And, if the format is short like a star system, it’s hard to evaluate the accuracy of the review. Bad information is worse than none at all.

Like I said, I think it would be nice to have if properly moderated, which will be time consuming. Otherwise it’ll be no better than the open forum.

I’m on here enough I’m up to modding this. I still think the star rating (maybe a few starts like different boxes) and who reviewed. So you can ask why they gave what they did directly. If a moderator sees a trend- “MRP always reviews bad results,” then he or she can address the negative results. Honestly it has to be kept simple or too much detail will allow too much off track behavior. Also, will we include sale of used parts?
