DOES YOUR NEIGHBOR ALWAYS WANT TO BORROW SOMETHING?

-
I borrowed a caulking gun from my neighbour once........3 months later, I needed it again so I called him and asked again. He told me that I hadn't returned it the last time I borrowed it. I felt like a total ****.....I looked high and low, finally I went to the store and bought 2....1 for him and one for me. When I went to his house to give it to him, there was the first one hanging on his peg board....Now he has two.

My old neighbor used to borrow things from me regularly especially tools! He was a great neighbor so I didn't mind, until he seized the engine on my rototiller! 65'

Same neighbour borrowed my BRAND NEW Milwaukee drill (read $300) to work on his RV. I went over later in the day to see how he was making out. Told me that he was finished and proceeded to drag it across his asphalt driveway by the cord from under the rig...I stopped him quickly, but he had already scratched the **** out of the side.....I hadn't even used it yet!

I gave a neighbor an antique set of car ramps and Loaned him my good working set. When I went to retrieve them a month later when I needed them he couldn't find either set and said he didn't know what happened to them And never offered to replace them.

Need the RED X for that....................not a good neighbor.

We are more fortunate now that we moved as we only have one neighbor on the block and they are wonderful people. 87 years old, retired, plant and take care of a large garden and drink beer in a nice little shanty behind their garage every weekend when it's warm. We just cut down a large tree in our back yard and stacked the wood on the property line for their outdoor fire pit. What comes around should go around and they are excellent neighbors.

I’ve been a mechanic all of my life. I worked with an older mechanic 25 years ago that said if he had to borrow a tool 3x, he would buy one. I’ve adopted this thinking and try not to pass 2x.

I had a 16 ft Mitchi-craft square stern canoe that everyone always wanted to borrow. I loaned it out many times until it was brought back with a huge dent in the side. I had had it since the 8th grade and never put a tiny dent in it. I asked the guy to get it fixed...and I have to admit HE DID. He took it to a local marina mechanic and the guy got that huge dent out and I couldn't even tell it was ever there. He was the only guy I let borrow the canoe until it was stolen from my yard...which was coincidentally located right next to the state police garage. The case was never solved. We moved due to flooding and I later found out the canoe was taken by the city code enforcement officer along with several other things post flood. Somehow he thought he could just take whatever was still good after the flood. We found out where he lived and went over there at night and stole it back.

Brother-in-law borrowed our steam cleaner 6 years ago.
We finally got it back when he died from Cancer last year.

Neighbor used to ask to borrow my truck. Not a beater mind you, my daily driver.

Nah, so I'd drive him instead to get acetylene.

Last time he wanted to get lunch too and I declined. So he bought a truck and doesn't talk to me anymore. Guy was a real charity case

There's one thing to help a misfortunate guy out or do favors for friends but it's always a guy like you had there that takes advantage of your kindness. Mr. Stein my 87 year old beer drinking neighbor guy let me borrow his applicator to remove moss from siding. When I took it back he and his wife were under the shanty kicking back. I had one cold beer in my hand for Mr. Stein. When I gave it to him his wife said...wait a minute here where's mine? I had another "coldie" in my hoodie pocket for her. She smiled and said OK you got me...LOL. I hope Karrin and I are that fortunate at their age if I make it there.

This guy is older and definitely agree with your assessment. He plays the poor me card and I used to believe it but not anymore.

Good on you for returning the favor!

Our neighbours don't even come in our gate! Guy with a runway "must be a drug runner" so they stay away and I tell them no different!

That brutal. He clearly doesn’t give a damn about anyone else’s property. I care for my tools and when I borrow my neighbours I take extra care making sure it’s not thrashed.

I’m borrowing my neighbours spare tire from his Coronet right now. My spare tire is on the passenger side as I refinish my rallye wheels.

neighbor ran over his buffalo box with the mower and bent the crank. asked if he could borrow my mower...I had 13 of them in various states of repair. found an old one that started and let him use it. can't remember if I got it back or not?
used to borrow the welder's floor jack. he would call when he was ready to use it again. He was sad when I told him I bought one so I wouldn't have to keep bothering him. He said he liked it when I did because it back looking better then when it left.
borrow a tool once, need it again? buy one.

I am lucky as well that I don't have any neighbors that live close, but like the old adage, "Good fences make good neighbors" (Which I have) I don't loan tools except to a few.

Having been accused of having museum quality tools the way I care for them there is no way I am letting just anyone trash them out. I am not beyond helping someone, but

asking to use my tools is like asking to borrow your wife or girlfriend.
