Well I need your input on this build. My plan were originally a 408, but we have used most of the funds that I had saved for that build on other more important things. So what I am doing now is a good flat tappet LA 360 build. The block is getting a .030 over bore and KB107 pistons. The machine shop will be assembling the short block, so I can take advantage of their one year warranty. My biggest issue is the heads. The machine shop has already checked out and installed hardened exhaust seats in my J heads, so there is some time and money invested in these already. My plans were 2.02 intakes and get them to a head porter in Salt Lake to clean up the bowls and runners. Then get them back to the machine shop for a good 3 angle valve job and finish them up.

I really only want a good solid motor that could run in the 12's at the track and have a nice lopey idle. Is this possible with my J's cleaned up?

In a perfect world I would rather get some RHS heads and be done with it, but I can get these J's together for another $500 and have them flow decent. I also need suggestions on cam. I like comp cams and have used their stuff in the past. Maybe an XE274? Most of the other stuff will just swap over from my 318, so the car will be getting a holley 750, air gap intake, 3,000 stall and 3.89 gears.

Let's hear what you got.

If your replacing valves, and probably guides, I'd go with 11/32 stuff and use a 1.94 chevy valve. Fits the bowl better and will require less porting.
I would also run the 275HL comp cam over the XE274.

Good to know. I will give him a call. I do know that he has already machined the heads for 11/32 chevy stuff.

PM sent.

I've run 12's with stock 2.02 J heads and 4.10's. I'd run with the cam Brian mentioned.

I am also building a 360. My motor guy suggested the alum Eldebrock heads (with some cleaning up). The shop also suggested a roller cam with adjustable rockers (rockers out of an old solid lifter 273). Just some feed back that I had received.

Thanks for the input. Eddys' and a roller setup would be nice, but they are out of my price range. Four kids, a stay at home wife and a morgage comes first. Although I do plan on running hughes roller rockers.

Thanks rumble. What kind of power could I expect out of this if I get the compression up around 10.5 and get the heads flowing around 250? I will also be running hooker comp headers.

Hey...I'll tell you the theoretical numbers.

Assuming you get your 10.5:1, and run the 274 cam, and you can feed it enough fuel, expect at least 440 hp / 460 ft lbs at the crank or so.

I have a few questions regarding a 360 out of an `85 dodge pickup.
Will it fit down in a 1975 plymouth duster?
will I have to change anything?

I also need to know the specs. to build a 408 stroker, I will spend 6,000 on this one.

This is worth it's own thread and alot depends on what engine you have in there now and what year it is.

In short (Very) the answer is yes, it'll fit.

I could be wrong,but I think you,ll need a oilpan from a car?

Your right, truck oil pans have an issue in a car.

Well the machine shop called and said the my short block will be $1,000 assembled. That includes all machine work, KB 107 pistons, rings, bearings, balancing, oil pump and zero decking the block. That included his one year warranty. I have never had someone else assemble the short block. Does that sound fair?

sounds more than fair to me,how's his reputation?

I have heard good things about him. His machine shop is very organized and clean. He does not advertise because, he just wants to operate by word of mouth and doesn't want more work than he can handle. It is just him and his son working in there.
