Planning on doing gas struts trunk and hood myself. No matter how much you grease those coiled hood springs they still squeak like a mouse.

'67 Valiant 2 door sedan for Drag n Drive

So, for the wheel tubs I looked at all the usual suspects... trailer fenders, wheel tub kits... nothing seemed to be what I wanted. I wanted my wheel tubs to be the same shape (flat top) as the originals, only a lot wider and longer to accommodate as big as a 30" tire. So, when I couldn't find...

Tonight I worked on the trunk hinges. Long story short, either the metal that interfaces with the torsion rods is worn out or I’m too stupid to make it work. Either way, I’m going with gas struts. I measured out where the brackets will go, and modified the hinge arms. I plug welded the 3 holes...

oh no doubt it can be done. I’ve seen your builds.. you can do nearly anything. :) I went with struts on the trunk because the torsion bars weren’t staying in place. I’m making mods to the hood hinges for more stability, and struts because I like the idea :)

Tonight was a good night. I got my struts fully installed for the trunk. I plug welded the ball stud bracket to the wheel well where the strut is straight left to right with only a little drop back to front. They work well! Now to disassemble the hinges for paint... again. We also installed...

So I used a screwdriver in the coils to open them up and bead blasted between the coils the best I could. Once that was done I opened the coils with the screwdrivers and packed the coil with grease. The Duster hood is smooth as silk and you can't hear it open. It can be done :). I also...

    hood struts

Mounting struts is not as difficult as some may think. The only guessing is in the force needed to open the hood. Mark the locations where the strut will be attached to the body, and the mounting point on the hood hinge bracket. Note the measurements between those two points with the hood...

Red Headed Stepchild-75 Swinger LSX Swap

Dyno day in the books. Had a few small things I had to fix while jt was on there. Air bubble in the a2w suction line which caused it not to pump. Simply disconnected and drain for a few second and hooked it back up and it cleared it. I misread the wiring on the pump and only wired it for low...

1969 Dodge Dart GTS — Trunk Torsion Bar Support Damage

Does any one have photos and a description of how they repaired the hooks the trunk hinge torsion bars attach to? The pressed sheet metal has cracked and deteriorated and will no longer hold the torsion bars on the passenger side. I have seen posts about adding struts but would like to keep it...

It’s a problem to be solved, not a concourse 100 pt restoration. Buy or make adaptors. You are putting a 408 stroked 360 Magnum in a ‘66 along with an OD trans plus hood and trunk hinges that are gas struts instead of the factory torsion rods that you adapted from a Mitsubishi. This isn’t...

    [FOR SALE] 72' Duster

After much consideration I've decided that what I want is a really nice daily driver instead of a muscle car that gets driven a few times a week at most. So my Duster is going up for sale (along with my 2017 Genesis G-80 if anyone cares) I just got the car back out of the shop after a dyno...

Gas Struts on The trunk lid? Here you go.

Thank you, Maurice! Lots of great info! So am I reading correctly that you currently have just the struts hooked up? And not the torsion bars to assist in lifting?

Gas Struts on The trunk lid? Here you go.

OK, gas struts are all installed for the trunk and I'm pretty happy with it. Just to recap so it's all in one post. This is in a '67 Dart Convertible so there are some special considerations for where the top rests in the down position. The basics are: 15", 100lbs each gas struts. 14.96"...

Gas strut for trunk. Help needed

Mopar Tim, I remember seeing that before but couldnt remember who did it. What it is under so I can look it up. Also do you know the weight of the trunk deck. If I remember your struts are located at a different place inside the trunk. Thanks Rod

    1966 Dart Hood Torsion Bars?

I used struts for a late 90’s or so Mitsubishi rear hatch. I did a test fit on my wagon back in Oct 2016 and expect finally to install everything this month or early next after the wagon is in paint Nope on the hood torsion rods. The only sokution for weak rods is to find a better set...

Spring trunk prop or gas strut?

Which of the these two options put the least amount of strain on the hinges on an early barracuda (66 to be exact)? My driver's side hinge is a bit worn. As hard as it is to find good hinges I'm trying to preserve it as long as I can. I know the spring is constantly pushing on the the lid...

Can I get some better pics of the rear brake lights? And how much for one or both interior door handles? What shape are the bumbers in? If they're at all rusted, would it be possible to just get the mounting hardware from the front bumper? Are the trunk lift struts in good condition...

Gas strut for trunk. Help needed

if you got a scale. prop the hood onto scale where the strut will attach and weigh from the mount point. Youll find out a 60 lb hood weighs about 200lb 6" from the hinge. Then you just buy it by capacity and compressed/extended length. Also check the pressure it takes to push the trunk down...
