Why does my car hate me ?

Same here, these last couple of years my Duster has broke it off in my ***. Went out the other night and told her she's gone before summer. I'm through, don't drive it much anymore (can't trust it) so therefore I'm getting out. Need the space in my garage. My last hope is the new carb arriving...

    The Columbus Nationals ?

Does anyone go to the Nationals in Columbus Ohio anymore? I believe it is this weekend, as it was always the second weekend of August. I stopped going in 2019 after my best friend, and Mopar head (like me) died from cancer. I know the Carlisle show has pretty much transplanted it over the last...

    Do you get nervous?

Yes, every time I take her out. Getting older now without kids, so I'm real close to just selling her.

    Pickup Coil/Reluctor

So we all know to keep the Gap at recommended settings (.008 on my 340) My problem is (New Distributor) I can drive the car a few month's, and then it will start getting harder to start. Then I know the pickup has moved away from the reluctor, and it's time to re-gap. My friend said try using...

    Carbon on valves

Yep, works like a charm. Just don't pour too much in at a time. I remember in the late eighties my buddy had a water injection system on his '71 Roadrunner 383.

72 Duster twister with the 275 horse 340 engine?

Look at the harmonic balancer. Is it a steel crank, or cast iron? The balancer will tell you. Cast iron will have a counter balance weight on the internal portion of the balancer. Forged steel crank will not. Forged steel...equals high compression. Cast...8:5:1 low compression. As far as the...

    Thing I hate most about my/all A-bodies

Every time, and I mean every time I take my '72 340 original Duster out for a drive some know it all wants to one up me with " I had one just like that, but it had a Hemi in it." Like he doesn't realize I rebuilt, and have owned this car since my father sold it to me in '80, that the 340 was the...

    Quick flexplate question.

Call, and talk to Drew at street and strip performance, here in Louisville, Ky (502) 969 1500. I had a similar problem a few years back with a 340 cast crank flex plate. He's been drag racing Mopars for 30 years plus. I'm sure he can help you. I'm almost certain that a cast crank 340 uses a...

    Screeching Sound

Belt alignment! Sometimes a washer, or two may be needed to make sure the belts run true. I did all the soap, tightening, loosening. Then one day my neighbor (an old timer who knew his way around an engine) eye balled my alternator belt, and sure enough it was just a bit behind the crank pulley...

    front drum brakes

Sounds like the drums might need to be turned a little, maybe a bit of warpage. Does it vibrate slightly when braking?

    Rear wheel cylinders

It was a faulty wheel cylinder, but it's nice to know I can come here and get smart *** comments. I'm fifty years old, this isn't my first brake job. J06 you were right, they were shitty Chinese cylinders. The car was restored twenty years ago, I put maybe 300 miles a year on it (That's 6000...

    Rear wheel cylinders

So I replaced the rear drum brakes on my '72 Duster340. Exhausted, I cleaned up, leaving the car on stands, in the garage overnight. Next morning, I see that my new cylinders have leaked a little (4" pool's on both sides of the garage floor) around the seals. Now I've never seen this before, and...

    What makes mopar guy different?

I don't even go to Mopar shows anymore. I have to agree with UDUST81. I've got a very nice '72 Duster 340 in Y8 Gold I believe it is. I bought it from my father the original owner in 1980. Restored to factory in '97. But after a few shows I came to the realization that if you don't own an...

The first time I've been afraid to rebuild a carburetor

Pump leaks are notorious on Holley carbs. Get real fine sandpaper, lay it on a flat table, take the pump cover and LIGHTLY sand it in one direction until all four corners clean up. MAKING SURE you keep the pump arm from touching the sandpaper. They won't leak again (fresh gasket of course)...

Small block heat riser pics (round type)

I just went out with a mirror to look at it. That piece with the loops at both ends is a limiter that goes up against the counterweight in a split in the shaft. Keeps the butterfly valve in the manifold from going past 90 degrees open. I don't have a digital camera so I'm not much help there...

Small block heat riser pics (round type)

When I get home from work tonight, I'll go out and take a good look at it. I believe that spring you are talking about goes in a split in the shaft, and acts as a limiter. but I'll get back to you late tonight, or in the morning.

Small block heat riser pics (round type)

There's a coil (heat) spring on the weight side, and a return spring on the other. The shaft must turn freely or new bushings will need to be installed. (an expensive endeavor.) Then you have to lubricate it with a graphite spray ever so often. My heat riser on my '72 340 had to be replaced back...
