Where to start tuning wise, procharged 340

IMG_4886 by Kris A, on Flickr Well I pulled the plugs and it seems like the majority of them are fuel fouled. A few look not so bad, none of them look lean as far as I can see.I guess I need to pull some fuel out of it, definitely on the idle and part throttle but I'll still keep the target...

Where to start tuning wise, procharged 340

Here is a video my friend took with a Go Pro of the last cruise so I could see if the latest revisions to my garage built procharger setup were working. So far so good, belt is staying on, tensioner seems to be taking up the slack nicely with no wrap up. Belt stretches a bit but it's a cheap...

Where to start tuning wise, procharged 340

Thanks for all the input guys! Sorry for the delayed reply. Been busy but have gotten a lot of work done on the setup. I took it out for a part throttle test drive the other day, got in it a few times at maybe 30-40% throttle, hit 5 or so PSI and it felt GREAT. Looking at the logs, it looked...

Where to start tuning wise, procharged 340

Thanks Chris, I actually did post this on the turbo boards but didn't get a lot of help. Basically just guys telling me not to rely on the meth for colder IAT's or as a fuel, but I was really hoping to bump into someone who has a similar setup (boosted small block mopar on pump gas) that could...

Where to start tuning wise, procharged 340

Hey guys, it seems like there are a lot of boosted mopar guys here (well, more than anywhere else anyway) and I could really use some help finding a starting point for my boosted 340. Setup is as follows: 340, factory forged crank, eagle H beams, Hughes stud girdle, Speed Pro forged Pistons...

Need help with Hellcat E body swap

Hey guys, first let me just say that I am in the early stages of researching gen 3 swaps, but I am trying to dive in fast. Only reaching out and asking questions that have probably been asked before because I am at a point now where I need to figure out a budget for this build to determine...

    Well It Finally Happened

I think there are a lot of myths about aluminum heads and boost. I used to hear guys say that they dissipated heat quicker so they allowed you to run more timing with boost. I have heard very experience builders tell me it is quite the opposite, that you HAVE to run more timing because you are...

    Fitech and boost

Not sure if you'll find them here, but I have come across many people on the net that have been running fitch successfully with turbos or superchargers. Check out the "Fitech owners" Facebook page, I actually just met a guy on there who has a single turbo 360 magnum on E85 using FItech 1200. I...

What to do with starter solenoid?

Hey guys, I'm working on modifying some wiring on my 70 challenger and I'm looking for something I can do with the factory starter solenoid to either clean it up with a nicer looking part or hide it somehow. Here's what I have so far as far as wiring goes. FullSizeRender-12 by Kris A, on Flickr...

Thanks Johnny! And thanks again for all the help with the distributor. I have to say it was some of the best customer service I have ever run into, I'll definitely be using you guys again!

340/E85/D1SC/FItech1200 big hp SB guys step inside please!

So I have a few updates First, I want to thank PACE performance for working with me after receiving TWO defective TSP distributors in a row. Both of them had rotor's mounting base welded on pretty crooked and would wobble a whole lot when spun. After receiving the second one like that, I decided...

Russell twist lock at the strip?

Don't quote me but if it is legal, it would probably fall under the same guidelines as the approved braided nylon lines in that if it runs through the bell housing area it has to be sheathed in a .120 wall tube if not run on the outside of the frame rail. I know the point of this rule, to avoid...

[FOR SALE] Hooker Super Comp headers, A1000 pump/voltage controller/regulator

Thanks rumblefish! They fit perfect on my 70 340 challenger. Cleared the factory starter and power steering no problem. They didn't run too close to anything and the bolts were easy to get to. i was very happy with them, I just needed a bigger tube for my new setup.

10 years and $25k to go!

Awesome build! You have your work cut out for you but sounds like you have a solid plan. As for the rear, unless you already had a built up 8 3/4 I would just go Dana and save yourself potential trouble. If the car is still going to be a race only car, stripped down and light weight you may be...

Too much typing and not enough progress on my end. Schedule is all screwed up for training at work, won't be able to wrench till the end of the month so I'll have a lot of catching up to do.

I appreciate all the replies everyone! Lots of great advice and stuff to keep me thinking about how to finish/improve the build! MAtts440, I did consider solid but it is mostly a street car and I have seen solid mounts cause some issues on street cars with cracking K members, possibly causing...

340/E85/D1SC/FItech1200 big hp SB guys step inside please!

Ieblanc, I definitely didn't forget those. I didn't do them "the right" way because I plan to do a full resto on this car at some point in the distant future. I just wanted to slap in something that worked so I took 2x3 rectangle stock and welded it tucked up against the floor from the...

340/E85/D1SC/FItech1200 big hp SB guys step inside please!

T56 and turbovan, thanks for the FiTECH tips! Just wondering, what plugs do you guys think I should be starting with? I was thinking one heat range colder as I'll probably be starting out with only 5-7psi with the pulley I am using now. So I finally swung the engine in, blower setup...

    E85 + Boost, what plugs?

How did those plugs work out? I have a very similar setup only FItech EFI on a W2 iron headed LA motor. I'll be starting out with somewhere between 5-8PSI (guess work based on the s/c pulley).

Selling a set of Hooker Super Comp headers for a small block LA, part number #5115 (black painted version). They are 1 3/4 primary with 3" collectors. Fit great on my 70 Challenger, I think they fit a bunch of other mopars as well other than E bodies but not sure which (should be listed on...

    Cheap Hellcats.

Just a hunch, but I'm guessing these hellcats won't be very cheap or easy cars to own when they start getting to be a few years old. Many new performance cars in general have pretty poor track records for reliability and with a car like the hellcat you are also adding the element of the...

340/E85/D1SC/FItech1200 big hp SB guys step inside please!

Getting VERY close to go time, think I'll be dropping the motor in the car next weekend and then it is just a matter of finishing the plumbing, wiring and some other odds and ends. Here is that monstrosity of a alternator bracket I welded up. the 140amp 1 wire was too thick to mount to the head...

340/E85/D1SC/FItech1200 big hp SB guys step inside please!

T56maxtorq, thanks for your input! It sounds like I should be OK then, with only 12-14psi of intercooled boost max and a 9.2 c/r, I shouldn't be anywhere close to the limits of e85 as long as I stay conservative on the timing.

340/E85/D1SC/FItech1200 big hp SB guys step inside please!

sub com, thanks for the tuning tips! When you say switch to pump gas initially for low boost, are you suggesting this because it would ease the burden on the fuel system or because the Fitech wasn't working well with the E85? I probably CAN run pump gas through this thing if I keep the boost...

340/E85/D1SC/FItech1200 big hp SB guys step inside please!

Thanks for the replies everyone! I was hoping to stick with a single pump, I ran dual walbro 255's on a procharged caprice I used to have and they worked great but just feel better with running one good pump. No need for hobbs switches and what not. I was looking into some of the Fuel Lab pumps...

As for the NHRA requirements, it's mostly a street car. I take it to the track a few times a year, but it's for rent outs that my friends do where the track officials look the other way on the tech inspections. I do plan on welding a cage in and taking care of all the other NHRA requirements...

340/E85/D1SC/FItech1200 big hp SB guys step inside please!

Coyote Jack, that's what my machinist tells me as well. He said at 12-13 psi he thinks it would be over the 700hp mark. I have an old A1000 pump I was going to have refreshed by Aeromotive, that would be at its limits at 700hp on e85. They want $200 to rebuild it, so for that cost I'm half way...
